What a god awful night, we were cleaning the ferret room and my b/f accidently stepped on Vaeda =/ she took off into a tube and wouldnt come out, when I did get her out finally she wasnt walking very well and her respirations were very high. She came around after a few minutes and was able to walk but she didn't act right. I called all the local vets even though I knew they didnt see ferrets, just hoping someone could do an x-ray or something so we knew how serious it was.. but no one would do it.
Nearest emergency vet that would see her is 1 1/2 hours away, we are under a tornado watch, flash flood warning and severe thunderstorm warnings.. if anyones been watching the news southern indiana/western kentucky has been hit hard. To make matters worse the highway to the vets office was flooded and not passable. I decided I had to know, I couldnt not try to take her, couldnt let her suffer if something was truely wrong.. so we took off, weather was so terrible, I couldnt see at times! I had to take a few detours but we made it there. There was a wonderful vet on call, she's not exotic but she knew enough to assess her. After x-rays we were told she has a small pneumothorax and there was some small amounts of free air in her chest but not enough that they felt the need to do a chest tap on her.
350 dollars later she sent us home with pain medication and steriods and I get to take Vaeda all the way back to evansville tomarrow to see our regular vet =/ if I can get there after all of this rain! She seems better now that she's had pain medication, she's wanting to get up and walk around but I'm keeping her caged. Just goes to show, no matter how careful you think you are, no matter how hard you try to avoid them, accidents happen =/ Just glad shes okay...
