Ok, so I was at the pet store to get another harness. And I saw the cutest baby, huge nose and dark points. Oh and those ears........ wait is this a black footed ferret? I swear it looked exactly like one! They were all RCF, anyone have any idea if they're messing around and crossing them with something, like polecats or.... I dunno. It just seemed so odd, but so freaking cute! If he wasnt sold already I wouldve brought him home!

It wouldn't be a black footed cross. My understanding is that they are not genetically compatible so unable to mate, but that being said black footed ferrets are a protected, endangered species and are therefore controlled. ciao

I figured it wasn't a black footed, but do ferret polecat crosses have the bigger ears and nose? Or is it just some odd little trait? Never seen it before, but I love it!

My understanding is that they are not genetically compatible so unable to mate, I believe Ternovsky/Ternovskaya and others bred hybrids and they do produce fertile offspring, so they are genetically compatible (any mix between M.nigripes/eversmannii/putorius/furo). But that's not to say you would find any such hybrid in a US pet store
