OK, so my nephew and I both have ferrets. Every once in a while we have a play date. My ferret LOVES to wrestle his! Unfortunately, his ferret is a little stronger than mine, or perhaps more aggressive. My ferret lives in a larger cage than his, so mine can climb around, plus mine lives with another ferret and they wrestle all the time, so I would expect my ferret to be in better shape than his! But alas, I think he needs more training. How can I make my ferret stronger than his? Any suggestions? Some kind of exercise program I can put him on? Let's PUMP this little guy up! ;D ;D ;D Come on, I'm feeding him raw, he has a wrestling partner, I play with him a lot, what more should I do? I can't let him get beaten all the time by my nephew's poor cheap-Wal-Mart-kibble-eating, tiny-cage-having ferret!! In fact he teases me saying "If raw feeding is so great why is my ferret tougher than yours??"

Just give it about 4 months ;D He's not been raw fed for very long, so he still has to build up the muscle. Not to worry- it will come

Where do you play with the ferrets when they're together. Your place, your nephew's? Ferrets are territorial. You also have to remember that a dominant ferret will always beat a subordinate even if the subordinate is stronger or larger. Lady 'B" always wins even though Thor and Odin outweigh her and are much stronger than she is. She's the dominant ferret in that business so she wins all the time. It's just the way it is. ciao

We always have the play dates at my nephew's place. So could it be that his ferret is acting more dominant since it's his territory? Fenton dominates Fiona like crazy when he's at home... My ferrets have a weird dynamic too. Fenton acts very submissive to me, but he dominates Fiona like crazy and she usually gives up pretty quick and submits. However, she does NOT give up quickly and submit to me! She gets over-aggressive sometimes and bites too hard and when I scruff her, she is so incredibly squirmy that she is able to squirm around and bite my hand that's scruffing her ! Funny, you would think that since I'm the boss of Fenton and Fenton is the boss of Fiona, I would automatically be the boss of Fiona, but she doesn't see it that way LOL!

Something that might work a LOT better with her than scruffing is a time out. Just use an empty carrier, and every time she bites hard, put her in there for 3 minutes. A couple of mine did NOT take well to scruffing, and that was the only thing that worked. The thing is, everyone has to do it every single time. And there will be times she'll launch herself out of that carrier as soon as it opens to latch onto the nearest bit of skin, but put her butt right back in for 3 minutes again. 3 minutes of unrelieved boredom is forever to a ferret, and it normally doesn't take very long for it to be effective And you should invite your nephew to bring his ferret to YOUR place for a change ;D
