Is it ok to use bitter apple spray for birds to train ferrets or should I just try getting bitter apple spray for ferrets?

What kind of training do you want to do, that will use the spray?

Well I let them run around my room but they always are trying to get in my closet and so they scratch at the carpet and I don't want the carpet destroyed and so I thought if I spray some bitter apple spray they will leave it alone My female also like playful bites me but she sinks her teeth in fairly hard and doesn't let go so I was thinking of either spraying a little on myself or getting one of those mitts for playing with them

I have the carpet issues with certain closed doors also. Once they decide that there is a place that they ABSOLUTELY have to see (lol), its hard to change their mind. I ended up slipping a piece of plastic under the door. They kept scratching, but couldn't hurt the carpet and the door would still open.
You can try using ferret psychology on your little girl. When she bites too hard, do what other ferrets would do. Put her down and walk away. She will learn that her ferrant, doesn't play the same way as other ferrets. I have to watch Juliet, she gets too enthusiastic and bites hard. I play with her, a little more carefully than the others. I will let her chase a teaser toy or wiggle a towel at her. When she jumps up on the bed to play and bites hard, I put her down and then say "No". I pick up a teaser or towel, wiggle it at her and let her know, that I'm still willing to play, just not so hard.
You can try the apple bitter spray. I haven't heard alot of ferrants say, that it actually works, though. I looked at the ingredients and they all seem to be the same, regardless of whether its for birds, dogs, cats or ferrets.

Bitterent will not keep your ferret from scratching. However I have used it with great success keeping them from biting or chewing wires.
Putting bitterent on you hands will teach the ferret not to play with you at all.
When I play with mine and they bite too hard I say "ouch" loudly and stop playing with them. When the same thing happens with one of my deaf ferrets I put a small toy in their mounth when they bite. It actually works quite well. Even now When I play with Taz and he gets really excited he will run up to the toy and bite it really hard and them come back and continue to play with me. Just keep a toy with you when your playing with them that you can pull out quickly enough to do the correction. If your ferret is still a baby this is all normal part of growing up. Most of mine have been really bitey for the first couple of weeks after bringing them home.

That might explain her playing so rough. Our ferrants with deaf ferrets, usually report that they are very vocal and miss all the signals, that other ferrets try to give them.

For me I have found bitter apple totally useless. They just bite or chew in spite of it.

What kind of plastic do you use? My ferrets are tearing up my carpet

Bitter apple is useless for most ferrets and will not deter them for this issue anyway. Sherry's method is the customary solution. I can't answer what type of plastic as I don't have carpets...digging on ceramics though annoying isn't damaging I've heard that some use the same type of plastic that you can put under desk chairs to prevent carpet damage by roller wheels ciao

It is just cut from a roll of plastic carpet protector.

Bitter spray will not keep them from digging, and in my experience it is equally worthless to prevent chewing as well. Nothing is going to stop them from digging - if you ever find the secret to that there are millions of ferret owners around the world who would love to hear it. Ferrets are burrowers by instinct, digging is a deeply instinctual behavior right along with stashing. Best thing you an do is get a roll of plastic carpet protector and a staple gun to tack it down to protect your carpet. Cheap, easy, and effective.
