Although I know a lot of smaller spiders can be more harmful than the bigger ones (redbacks aren't very big)...but that spider looks harmless in the extreme, at least huntsman and most garden spiders look big enough to seem harmful even if they aren't. your boys, skin and fur, would not do well in aus

I only killed it because it was half dead already, I think maybe the ferrets had their fun with it. I just pushed it in the bag and let nature take its course. And I agree, my boys would NOT do good in Australia... I have looked at some of the cridders and I would be in heaven, but they are afraid. We mostly have wolf spiders around here and the bad thing with those guys are they seem to be aggressive. They are decent sized and will chase you! We also have black widows and brown recluse (sp?), so in my boys mind EVERY spider is dangerous.

Love the pics- AND the fact that YOU have to save the HUBBY from the spider! Yeeeeeeah... He is a big chicken with spiders. Unfortunately his fear has transferred to my boys (skin kids) they are also pretty afraid. I was a BIG tomboy growing up and spiders were pets to me! I don't love em that much anymore, but I don't mind gathering one up in a cup and relocating it far, far away. I have finally convinced him to leave the poor daddy long legs alone, I told him they kill the other spiders and its too small to bite him, so he lets them live as long as they are far away from him. It's all about compromise, he does the dishes, I handle the spiders

Lol We are big fans of turtle/tortoises around her, so it was a perfect addition. The boys (furr boys) love it too! It was on sale on Ferret.com, usually almost $20 at Petco/Petsmart!

I loved your pictures. Did Pepe and Oliver get to meet the Hedgehog? I don't mind spiders, either. We had a pretty spider set up her web in the bathroom window. I named her Charlotte (of course) and let her stay. Paul was scared to brush his teeth.

I named her Charlotte (of course) and let her stay. Paul was scared to brush his teeth. No, from what we understand hedgehogs can be kinda sensative for the first few days before they bond with their new owner so we didn't let them meet. She didn't even bring him in to let my kiddos see him, worried that it would stress him too much. She also has a ferret, so I'm sure they will meet at some point. And if my hubby knew I was ALLOWING a spider to build a web in the bathroom, less than 100 ft of where he sleeps, he would never come in the house. Needless to say I have played this to my advantage before... When we first got married we lived in a double wide trailer for a few years before we bought our current home. We lived close to the Rio Grand river and there were a lot of farm land and therefore a whole different kind of spider. We came home after a long weekend fishing trip to find a HUGE web going from one end of our kitchen to the other. We could not even get to our bedroom. I immediately grabbed a broom and started wrapping it up, he would not come in the house. He ended up sleeping in his truck, too terrified to come inside even. I never did find the spider that did it and it never re-made his creation. He can be kind of ridiculous sometimes needless to say...

Oh that's funny! It looks pretty real too! Another story just cause he is so ridiculous... He works for my parents and one year around Halloween they took one of those spider rings and put it way back in his box (a cubby that is about 3x3in and long) and when he came for his pay check he saw it. He didn't at the time say anything, but when I went to pay bills a few days later I noticed his check never got deposited. I asked him about it and he said 'he didn't want to talk about it'... weird. I called my mom and she said she paid them, she ran over to the office to check his box and burst out laughing when she saw his check stuffed haphazardly into the box and the fake spider crushed in the back. I asked him about it and he said he got a stick and 'smashed' the spider with it and was gonna give it a few days before it was safe to get his check. I told him it was fake and he was so embarrassed. It made for a good story though!

It really, really is... But he brings it on himself, if he didn't act so extreme we wouldn't enjoy it so much!
