Update...
1. Ferret's name: Lola
2. Ferret's weight: 1 lb 10 oz
3. Ferret has eaten "X" amount on average per meal: 1/2 to 1 1/2 oz per meal
4. Stools on various proteins. When meaty bones, poop small solid and brown, when organs or heart more black and a little runnier
5. Activity levels: Medium. She has accepted the new ferrets and is playing with them but she still only plays for a little while and then wants to go sleep more. I make her get back up and play with her separately if she's only been up for a little while, and she will keep playing if I do that.
6. Weekly menu: Franken Prey diet. Has been eating quail, game hen, chicken heart, beef heart, beef liver, chicken liver and beef kidney.
1. Ferret's name: Lil'Kit
2. Ferret's weight: 1 lb 8oz
3. Ferret has eaten "X" amount on average per meal. About 1-2 oz
4. Stools on various proteins..poops have looked good, not too runny, I haven't noticed a bunch of bones in them like I thought I saw at first
5. Activity levels: High. She's a crazy kit with toys and space for the first time. She's been playing and playing and playing and playing and playing. <3
6. Weekly menu: She's on large chunks, franken prey diet, same foods as Lola.
1. Ferret's name: Piggie Smalls
2. Ferret's weight: 3 lb 2 oz (he lost an ounce...noooooooo)
3. Ferret has eaten "X" amount on average per meal. 2-3 oz per meal
4. Stools on various proteins...normal
5. Activity levels: Medium to High. Lil'Kit and him play with each other quite a lot.
6. Weekly menu: He's on medium to large chunks! He was resisting at first, and even went almost a whole day when I didn't have soup, but he finally just started eating the chunks if I put a squirt of salmon oil on them. I've seen him go and eat them on his own now a few different times without me encouraging him with the oil. Same diet as Lola and Kit.
Things are going good! The new ones are pretty much right up to where we left off when Zin died. I am in the middle of processing a bunch of stuff into weeks worth of food. (I spent 4 hours last night doing it....and still have a bunch to do.) I'm trying to go through what I have still in the freezer to see where I am before getting the whole prey. I am doing seven bags of food in each weekly batch, with a 2 meals worth in each bag. (And that's kind of an estimate..I still don't know exactly how much they are eating. I put 6-8 oz of meat in each bag to last a whole day so I'll see how it goes when I get into it.)
I'm processing game hen, rabbit and chicken ribs and spines and wings for the bony meat. For organs it's a mix of chicken liver, beef liver and beef kidney. For heart it's a mix of beef heart and chicken heart. And for muscle meat it's a mix of gizzards, pork, beef, and a little more heart.
So my menu for the seven bags...
4 bags of bone in meat (equaling 8 bone in meals)
1 bag of muscle only meat (equaling 2 muscle meals)
1 bag of half heart, half muscle (equaling 1 meal of hearts and 1 meal of muscle bringing it to 3 total muscle meals)
1 bag of 3/4 organs 1/4 heart (equaling 1 meal of organs and 1 meal of half organs half heart)
So I think that covers the proper meals? I"m going to keep working on bagging it up and processing the stuff tonight. I probably should have 5 or 6 weeks worth when I'm done. I'm cutting it into a variety of chunk sizes, leaning towards large and extra large.)
Besides the food everything is going great! Lola has accepted them, they play and cuddle together. The babies have only used the litter box and nowhere else in their smaller area. I haven't let them out in to a bigger area yet so we will see how that goes when I get there. I am working on training them too, by the youtube videos joey the trained ferret. I'm just doing a drop of oil with the clicker right now to associate it with treat. (The first step on the videos)
Anyway, Happy National Ferret Day!
