Hey. I'm really interested in fostering for a rescue. I've always wanted a ferret and I've done lots of research on the species, ferret ownership, and rescues. I volunteer at my local animal shelter and all my pets are adopted. I can't adopt a ferret due to my current situation. I'm not always in a position to cover very expensive medication or surgery, but I will pitch in. I can provide housing, food, care, and lots of time and love for a homeless ferret. I've contacted many shelters in my area and most require "experience". Westchester Ferret Rescue said they will let me know when they need a foster home For now, can anyone help me or give me any kind of advice? Are there any shelters out there who need foster homes? Thanks for reading. (:

Good morning Tails so whear do you live? If its a shelter your looking for I am good at looking stuff up despite how difficult the search engines make it. My best advice, happy diet=happy ferret:).

Good morning Aaron I'm in northern New Jersey, about an hour away from the city. You're so right about the search engines though haha it took me a while to find Westchester's rescue!

Hi, and welcome You're best bet might be to volunteer at a shelter first, to get some experience. I'm no where near you, so can't help with locations, etc., but I do know that most of them DO need volunteers, even on a weekly/bi-weekly basis. Then, once you've gotten to know them, they'd consider you for fostering much more seriously.

To expound on the good food idea, like my web site this one is lost in cyberspace. Mine maby just has 7% ferret info, this one is 100% and very reliable. fft www.aferret4all.com/foodforthought.htmNow, you said you found a shelter or you want more, or you know of one but its not enough?

I was just wondering if there were any nearby rescues in need that I missed.

Thanks for the list, though I've contacted all those rescues previously, haha. (: I'd love to start off volunteering, but it seems like a lot of these are home-based foster systems (as opposed to a shelter in one place)? I'm not sure if that made sense. Like for example, I visit a cat and dog shelter weekly to do volunteer work. Is there anything like that for ferrets?

Not usually. Most ferret shelters are operated out of people's homes, but that doesn't mean they don't want help. After all, a lot of them have 20+ ferrets, so an extra hand helping to clean cages is always appreciated
