so i've come to conclude that the pee theory is probably right on... he's pretty chunky, messy and piggy, and the pee is all over his belly most of the time. he kinds of just lazily drags himself on the floor when he goes... and it just ends up smearing everywhere!! overall he has a much stronger smell than vienna and is way more messier!
he isn't really a very itchy ferret, either. when we adopted vienna she was pretty scraggly and was one of the itchiest creatures i had ever seen until we switched her to innova. he gets the itchies, but nothing that would strike me out of the blue as having overly dry skin. he gets plenty and plenty of fats (maybe that's why he's so chunky?? ) and his coat actually seems more "oily" if that makes sense. it makes sense to me why miami gets the eczema during the springtime... "mating" season. but for me, it started to really show up in january. i had eczema growing up, never to this extent before but i think he caused it to flare up and in a different way.
the dr said he normally doesn't prescribe oral steroids but to the extent that i had it, he wanted to course that way. it started to clear up the very next day, and by day 3 the inflammation and swelling was gone. the pinkish coloring is still noticable on the arms but not anywhere to the extent that it was. i have 2 more weeks of tapered dosing and then i'm off for good. yay!!!
everyone's advice is really helpful and inspiring. i'm going to give him a quick bath overall and then wipe him down daily. boys ARE pigs.... i think he has proven this to me in such a short time!
