Makes sense to me ;D The reason I mentioned it is that a number of people have found that raw feeding their animals can drastically reduce allergic reactions, because the animal is getting far more hydration, reducing the severity of the dry skin, which in turn reduces the amount of dander produced.

Sonny's skin is not dry though. He never scratches /itches and I make sure he gets a lot of fat. over 30%. I really think its the oils on his fur.

You have a ferret who doesn't get the itchies? ;D It's possible you are allergic to the oils miamiferret. After all- we can be allergic to almost anything out there!

i had a link to an article (lost everything when the hard drive crashed) that stated that the URINE is the allery trigger; not the oils; and that male ferrets are more likely to cause allergic reactions than female ferrets.
i do sometimes get a mild contact dermatitis when i pick up one of the boys after they used the box - especially when they've let the urine dribble and it's all over their abdomen. i only notice this happening in the springtime, though - rest of the year it isn't an issue, so, there must be some connection with the season (breeding time) and extra hormones coursing through the system and it's the hormones in the urine that are the issue, rather than urine itself.

very interesting about the urine. we do call him "pee boy" or "mr. pee body" because he likes to play with the newspaper that he pees on! sometimes when he urinates he drags his abdomen through it (because he's lazy and he doesn't stand up right) and he also gets his paws wet with urine sometimes. i don't remember if Al did the same thing as it was so long ago but maybe he did?? hmmm and that would explain why i developed the problem in the spring with Al and now with Sonny it was the same thing. very interesting indeed. I'm going to have a talk with Mr. Pee Body when i get home...

Maybe try giving him a quick wipe down with a damp cloth, and see if that makes a difference.

I just use the steroid cream when i have a flare up and it works fine. I do wipe him down with a wet washcloth every few days but he digs and goes underneath the pee soaked newspapers like a little pig. he does it to spite me and to get attention. unfortunately, there is only so much that i interfere with "Pee Boy's" digging and playing with his urine soaked newspapers.
