How big are the bone pieces? Any chance you can get a picture? Here are the before and after photos of the Quail:

That small and she won't even try them?? *facepalm* What a stubborn little girl! It's okay we have some tricks to try yet. Can you give hand feeding a try for a few days with her? You can mix soup, oil, FD sprinkles, whatever she likes into those chunks. Try specifically placing bone bits into her mouth every time too and don't let her run off to stash and spit out the bits, hold her in your lap to make sure she eats it. lol Let me know if this will be doable. I think right now hand feeding is going to really be the way to get her going with as stubborn as she is being. Rotten little Princess! SMH

Rotten little Princess! SMH LOL, she is my little princess. Good idea with the gravy. I will try that, I haven't seen her eat today. (headwall) She probably has a stash somewhere, or she knows about a Wynstan stash. As for hand feeding, I was trying that. This morning, I popped some in her mouth and she promptly ran off and spit it out. She did eat the boneless piece. She's napped most of the day, so when she gets up shortly, I will try again. Hopefully, she gets up soon and not at three in the morning. Thanks again, Stef

Brat. Try, try, try again! lol Is there any way you can get some powdered eggshell into her without dosing the others, since they are eating bone? I don't want her deficient in anything... Maybe mix it into the gravy that you put on the bony bits and only feed it to her? We need to make sure she is getting enough Ca. If you can, keep a bowl of the bone bits and periodically grab her as she runs by and pop one in her mouth too. I hate to say crush it up more since those are small bones and they are already very crushed, but IF in a week or two she hasn't made any progress at all you might think about a way to smash them smaller (don't worry, I will brain storm too). But honestly, they have all moved along pretty quickly. Being stubborn like this is more typical of ferrets. So don't worry, we'll get her there one way or another, it might just take some time.

Good Morning (wave) The FDR gravy was a big success. Mika ate the quail mixed in with the FDR. I took six little pieces of duck, duck, goose FDR and put them in warm water. After they were moist, I crushed them into a gravy. Then about 9:00, she woke up and I held her and fed her the quail. No problems eating it (dance) Everyone wanted some, and they finished off (almost) every last bit. This is NOT an April Fools Joke

I really wasn't expecting it to go so well so quickly. lol Okay so next plan of action.... you need to work on 2 things. Thing the first: increasing bone size. Thing the second: getting rid of the gravy. For the sake of keeping the Spoiled Princess up to speed with the others, go ahead and keep using the gravy for now. Start crushing the bones (Quail, Chicken, whatever you want to give for each bone meal) a little bit less and less every couple of meals - going only as fast as they continue to eat it. It will take some time for them to build up their jaw muscles for bone chomping. After the bone chunks have increased a little bit in size, start to also decrease the FD gravy (while continuing to increase the bone size). Slow and steady wins the race here. Going gradually will both give them time to get used to eating increasingly bigger bones, as well as give their jaw muscles time to develop.

The tongue is an organ, right? So, they all did fine with the pork tongue. I slice it into long thin strips and they are fine with that.

Hello (wave) Last night, everyone was napping at dinner time. No one ate anything. Mika and Wynstan went for a walk. It was Mika's first walk and she loved it. She was fearless and wanted to go everywhere. Wynstan is all about burrowing under the leaves. When we came back inside, Mika sat by the door for quite awhile. Breakfast time found everyone quite hungry. The hearts were still mostly frozen, so everyone snacked on gizzards. I cut the gizzards in half and they all ate the chunks. Lunch will be hearts, I'll let you know how that goes.
A body part that secretes is considered an Organ, right? I found several references that called the tongue an organ, because it is comprised of two tissues. But, for our purposes, we consider only parts that secrete, right? Paul wondered if the penis, like those goat penis's (?) that we saw on FB are an organ.
:thankyou: Stef

Good Morning (wave) Last night for dinner, I had hearts and gizzards out. I also made liver/heart soup. I know that they will eat liver soup, so I put some hearts in it, to make sure that everyone would eat some hearts. I put out a plate of hearts and gizzards and made two bowls of liver/heart soup. Wynstan, Roamy and Juliet ate every last bite of the soup. Mika woke up and was hungry, and there was no soup left. We still had the plate of hearts/gizzards. She ate a few bites of hearts and a few bites of gizzards. They were chunks and a good size.
This morning, I crushed up the quail again and put it in a little FDR gravy, and Mika ate a few bites. Roamy, Juliet and Wynstan finished off the plate of hearts and gizzards and also ate some Quail.
I keep updating my DocChart and will link it, at the end of the week so that you can easily see what progress, we made this week.
:thankyou: Stef

Sorry having a heck of a week in school. I have more to say but for now keep it up! Is Mika crunching on the bones okay? If she seems fairly comfortable crunching them then up the size (smash less) by a tiny bit. If she still seems kind of unsure then give it a few more meals. You can use chicken wings and other smashed bones too. Game hen is great for small bones
