Hey, I'm going to be starting to feed raw soup this week, I've read the whole thread and am a little confused because a couple times different information has been said, I guess because things change over time.. Is this an appropriate recipe?
8oz chicken thigh 2oz heart 1oz liver 1/2 tsp eggshell powder.
blitz all together, and you can add a little water if it's too thick?
Could I add one egg yolk instead of water? Or pumpkin like was mentioned earlier in the thread?
Because the pumpkin replaces the non digestibles like fur and stuff, does that mean none of the pumpkin is processed? What about it being a vegetable? Is that going to negatively affect them at all? Or is it purely for benefit? I'm not worried about blockages, just regular feeding of a veg?

8oz chicken thigh 2oz heart 1oz liver 1/2 tsp eggshell powderNot quite but close -'it should be 1oz heart and 1oz liver. Their diet should consist of 10% heart, 10% organs (at least half liver), and the rest non-heart muscle meat and edible bone. blitz all together, and you can add a little water if it's too thick?Yep! Could I add one egg yolk instead of water? Or pumpkin like was mentioned earlier in the thread? No and no. Egg is great for them but feed the whole egg, not just the yolk. Do not use it as a water substitute for soup though or you will get some seriously slimy poops. The general rule of thumb is no more than 1 chicken eggs per ferret per week. You can up to 2-3 eggs during shedding season but careful to not give them diarrhea with too much egg. Because the pumpkin replaces the non digestibles like fur and stuff, does that mean none of the pumpkin is processed? What about it being a vegetable? Is that going to negatively affect them at all? Or is it purely for benefit? I'm not worried about blockages, just regular feeding of a veg?We no longer recommend the regular feeding of pumpkin. It should only be used in the case of a suspected blockage - emergencies only. It used to be believed that pumpkin could, as a fiber, help replace the fiber provided by the fur and nails and stomach content of prey. However it IS a FRUIT and thus really isn't good for regular use. Also most ferrets eating whole prey don't actually even ingest the stomach and digestive tract of the prey - they carefully pick it out. I hope that helps. Please keep asking questions as you think of them!

Thanks!
So, 8oz (225g) chicken 1oz (28g) heart 1oz (28g) organ (at least half of this liver) 1/2 tsp eggshell powder
I'm in australia and we're on the metric system here so I've written it down in grams, I have no idea what an oz looks like, so that helps.
I didn't think that the pumpkin was a good idea, glad I clarified, and it's good to see that people here are willing to change what they believe for the benefit of the fuzzies.
My girls are currently eating a different kind of soup, can I slowly add a little of this raw soup to room temp of the one they're eating and slowly increase the raw percentage until they're only eating that?

I turn my ice cube trays upside down, mine have a small circle on the bottom (got them at dollar tree two to a pack) and I push on the middle of the cube and they make a pop sound, then each one comes out.

Silly question but I don't own a blender at the moment. Can I try a fine chop/mash and see if they'll take to that?

Absolutely! In fact, that is exactly how I would suggest starting out. Once they will eat all raw soup, then you can start sneaking in teeny slivers and moving up from there...

I would think so. A lot of ferret foods have rabbit in them, although we can't really take that as a guide

Rabbit is a favorite of many of this forum's ferrets, if your fuzzy will eat it then why not?

Ok i wasnt sure if when your in the soup stage if you should stick completly to chicken or if it was ok to mix it up and give them a taste and liking to other meats. I thought it would be helpful for them to already have a taste for it so when i decide to feed it to them in the future they already know what it is. Rabit seems more fatty than chicken.. When i mix the soup up in my food processor it left a bunch of kinda like grease in my food processor so u wasnt sure if it was too fatty of a meat to give to them at the start of switching or if i should wait.. I feed them the rabbit soup today and as soon as i gave a little to loki on his mouth he went right to it and started eating.. My little girl is weird tho she will eat it all if i syringe feed her but will only take a couple bites on her own if i just stick it in her cage.. Lol but it is bonding us i think she gives me kisses and has become such a mommies girl

Should I put any kibble into the purree to entice the ferrets to eat the soup when first starting the transition??
