Hello hello!! I am a new member but don't think I need a mentor because my girl already eats raw without a problem. But I am thinking about just doing whole prey as that does seem to be her favourite. She eats a good combination of chicken wings, gizzards, hearts, turkey necks, pinkies, and hoppers. Will she be getting everything she needs from the mice or will I still need to do 3 different types? Also, can I get frozen chicks and rabbits from a reputable source online or do I need to go to a butcher? Thank you for your time!!

Still need at least 3 different types of animal protein, whole prey from a single animal wont change that need.
will also need to make sure that they eat the whole prey and not just their favorite part. that is the tough part. especially if you have multiple ferrets and they each like a different part. you can get frozen whole prey from retailers on the internet.

You will also have to feed predominantly adult prey. They younger the prey animal the less nutrients available. Pinkies have no nutritional value (great training treats) and hoppers aren't much better. They need to be adult mice. You could feed whole prey if you fed....mice, rats and rabbit. I feed that but I also feed frankenprey and grinds so that I know I'm covering all my nutritional requirements. It also prevents issues where if your supplier cannot supply for whatever reason, you've got something to feed. Prey though the easiest to feed is also the most difficult to keep a steady supply and is the most costly of all the methods ciao

Ok! Great! I think I will stick with what I am doing then and just add more whole prey over time. I thought she might have a favourite part but she devours the whole critter!!! And quickly too!! I bought a rat for her a few days ago... I'm nervous though. I get queezy feeding whole. I know it's good for her and she has taken to it so quickly that I don't want to delay in giving her the best. I will thaw the poor victim in the next day or two and give it a go! Haha I ordered some chicks from rodent pro. They should be here next week. I understand they are more of a treat. So that will be a casual goody from time to time to just mix it up.

Just a tip on the rat, and this may be hard if you are squeamish. Let me rephrase, this WILL be hard if you are squeamish. Rats stink. Bad. But if you can open the abdomen and remove the stomach, small and large intestines, it will make a HUGE difference in the smell. It will also make your clean up a tiny tiny bit easier because they tend to leave that part of the prey behind anyways.

Oh. My. Gosh!!!! Hahahaha I'm not going to lie there is NO flipping way!! Lol!!! I love her and all but.. No. I'll clean up remnants but I'm not cutting anything open. Not yet anyway! Hahaha Oh! How often can I give sardines? I am assuming not often but I'd love to give her some fish. Also, when I took her for her shots and check up she weighed in at a pound and a half. I think she is a bit lean. The vet said she looked great but I'm questioning his knowledge of ferrets to begin with. ( looking into trying a different vet ) I'd like her to have just a little more meat on her. What can I include in her diet to help put on a little extra? I'd like to post a picture of her but I don't know how from my phone...

Fish you can have as part of a weekly rotation And some ferrets are just long and lean body types Think of a whippet.
