Hi There, We have a five year old BEW who had pneumonia and a collapsed lung when we rescued him. We initially gave him some antibiotics from the vet, which worked for about a year. While the pneumonia is gone, he is constantly wheezy and crackly in his throat. We have started Benadryl, which the vet has said MIGHT help.
At a pet expo, we have found a natural product, which is for dogs and cats to assist with respiratory support. The ingredients are white horehound, marshmallow root, Echinacea, licorice, andrographis and golden seal.
Can anyone shed any light on whether this might be ok for him?
Many thanks
Kelly

Hi Kelly and Welcome to the HFF. I see that you haven't had an answer yet, about your little guy or this product. I'm not familiar with it, hopefully someone else here is and can give you an answer. I'll keep an eye on your post, and keep it up front. I also would like to thank you for bringing in a rescue ferret, I'm very happy that you are caring and concerned and trying to do your best for him.

Is it possible that he is asthmatic?

One of the problems I have with multiple "herbals" is not all are good and not all can be administered over long periods of time. Echinacea, is a pulse herb. Licorce stimulates hormones and should not be used on adrenal ferrets. I would be very tentative in using this without a holistic practitioner recommending it upon the diagnosis of your ferret's issue. Diagnosing ferrets is often quite complex. You need to find out what the chronic issue is first. Have any recent xrays been done? ciao
