Sherry - My vet was the same way with Jack. She kept a bowl of Carnivore care in his cage right up until he went into the OR. He didn't eat any (who would? the stuff is stinky) but she wanted him to eat if he was up to it... Agreed! I had 4 bags of that stuff and it smelled awful. My ferret wouldn't eat it and I sent the bags to a ferret shelter.

Sorry about the wait for an update. Right after I posted about her pending surgery, the video card on my PC died. Husband had to go buy a new one, but didn't have time to install until late Saturday evening. Rest assured, she did VERY well. I will go into more detail with pics, etc., Monday morning when I have more time. I took a couple pics before surgery and a couple after. Hopefully the before pics came out clear. Good idea for a sticky!

I'm so glad it went well Did they have to remove very much of her tail?

Here's a couple pics of her tail a couple days before surgery. The one on the left you can barely notice it, the one on the right, though it's a bit blurry, you can make it out. It was a bit less than 1/2 inch in diameter. The night before surgery I fixed the second level of the FN for her to recover in (freshly sanitized litter box, lots of blankies and a sleep sack, her favorite "babies"). She spent the night there since I had to remove the kibble bowl (wouldn't be fair to the other three, plus Duncan is insulinomic). I did fast her for about 10 hours though, since her surgery was scheduled for 8:00 am. The surgery didn't take too long and not much of her tail looks missing... just about an inch - inch and a half. When the vet called with the status Friday around noon, she said Brownie was up and wanting to cause trouble but was chowing down on the soupies I had sent. We picked her up around 5:00 pm. They said she was a great patient, and that the vet techs took turns carrying her around and loving on her all afternoon. She even took a turn or two on the receptionist's desk and investigated the receptionist's lunch salad! She was sent home with Carprofen (.3mg twice a day for a couple days) for pain management for the weekend, which made her gag and pee herself. I guess the chicken flavoring they used didn't make much of a difference in the taste. We were also given Metronidazole paste that they made (crushed a couple pills and made a paste with water) in case she started chewing on her tail. Here's her tail the evening of surgery: Here she is when she was let out for a little playtime this morning (leaning up against one of the cats): She's not as bouncy as she was over the weekend, but then, she's not on pain management anymore so is a bit more "careful". She's being kept separate from the others for a while (vet said restrict her for 5 days), but is allowed out a couple times a day to stretch her legs. She goes back in 14 days for removal of the stitches.

Poor baby girl She does seem to like her kitty friend, doesn't she? I'll bet she misses the others. The amputation site looks really good!

They took very little off that was awesome, she won't have to relearn her balance points. I hope it doesn't come back (they do sometimes). Very clean, nice job. Poor wee thing, I hope she heals quickly and is back to her mischievous self in no time ciao
