I have had my ferrets for almost 2 months. I feel like I have done a good job of proofing my house with the exception of my fridge. They can get at it two ways: underneath and alond the side between the fridge and my cupboard. I tried getting my landlord to get a grate fot the fridge but they said the model I have doesnt have one so they cant order it. I tried putting duct tape across the front opening which was torn off. I tried taping metal mesh to the front which also got pulled off although it lasted longer. I also tried putting some of the mesh up as a wall along the side of the fridge but my girl climbed up it. Then I covered it in doct tape so she couldnt use the mesh as a ladder. Somehow that didnt work either. I dont know what else to try but am concerned they will get hurt by going under and behind the fridge. I would appreciate any help!

Is there any way to keep them out of the kitchen entirely? Not sure about the size of place you have is all. It's almost impossible to totally ferret proof the fridge, and still allow it the space it needs so it doesn't overheat. For the bottom, you could build a wooden frame. Hubby did that for our dishwasher, and it worked really well. Just measure 2X4's, screw/nail three sides together, and put the front one one with hook and eye catches. That way, you can undo it and move it out of the way to get into the fridge. For the side/back, the closest I came(when they still got into the kitchen) was to duct tape a thin sheet of plywood(3' tall) to the fridge, floor, and wall Looked horrible, but if we kept an eye on them, we could always get them before they could manage to find a way over. For the other side, I had some spare shelves that I stacked on end in there to block it. Now, I just use a baby gate to block access to the kitchen entirely ;D
