I know that crocheting bedding can be risky in part due to the looseness of the stitching.
I am wondering if a knit stitch (tightest knitting stitch ) on a size 7 needle would be tight enough. On top of it being the tightest knitting stitch that I know I'm also a tight knitter, you really have to stretch it out to see any spacing in it.
So any of you familiar with knitting and ferts give me your thought please. This would be for tray covers

Make a swatch and see how it loOKs! You can always turn the swatch into a toy of some kind.

That's an idea. I'm more concerned with toes getting caught and possibly broken than I am about the looks of it though. I was wondering if any here had tried this

A swatch would still tell you how much stretch you're working with. Make it, say 12" x 12" square and let the ferrets test drive it with supervision.
I'd think a finer yarn, in a non-stretchy material, with smaller needles, would probably work. I wouldn't use acrylic though, as it can cause friction burns to your hands while working in a tight gauge! Maybe cotton, or even a wool or wool blend.

I have this peaches and cream brand yarn it's 100% cotton and super soft without being fuzzy or stretchy I'm thinking I'll try it with that

Peaches and cream is good stuff. It isn't always colorfast but holds up to many washings and rough use! My mom makes dishcloths with it, they are nearly indestructible.

I haven't used any yet, I had gotten it originally for some loom weaving I was doing. After it sitting in my bag for a while I decided to read up on line about it, it seems that dish rags are what a lot of people use it for.

I have seen crocheted hammocks etc, but I would be hesitant. My concern is nails being snagged.
