So I FINALLY got a freezer! It's an upright one. It says "Heavy Duty Commerical" on it. It has coil-thingys on the shelves. It's about 6 ft high, maybe 3 wide? It's a monster ;D Anyway, it works great - but I have one issue. The door doesn't seal right. I think the rubbery thing that's supposed to form the seal is kinda messed up. Any ideas how to fix it/rig it to stay closed? Also, anything I should know before I move all my meat into it?

Going through the same thing, we just picked up a chest freezer for cheap on CL, it's amazing having extra space! Our rubber thing doesn't seal right either, but if we press the lid closed really hard, it's like there's a hole somewhere in the seal because we can hear the air squeeze out and then it stays suctioned shut until the next time we pop it open. I think Home Depot/Lowes sells replacement rubber stuff, we're going to check it out this weekend. Hopefully it'll be a cheap and easy fix for both of us ;D

Thanks both of you! I'll check home depot and see if they have the part. I think it might be called a gasket If they don't or too expensive, I'll look onto the padlock idea! I'm so excited

Yes, they are rubber gaskets, but can be a real pain to install correctly. You have to make sure you get ALL the old one off. Not easy. Then the new one has to be put in perfectly straight ;D

we have an upright like that...we use a bungee cord to make it seal right... we wrap it in the back so the hooks are in the front, to close the door we hook the bungee cord to itself.....yeah it's all rednecked-ified but it works and I don't have to bother with trying to replace an old seal or loosing a padlock key, which I've done many times before!

A nice big one, awesome! Yeah, ours doesn't seal too great, but not bad enough that I worry about it, must be something about beat up 2nd hand freezers, lol! I cleaned mine out with bleach water, there was blood all over it because my brother had deer heads sitting in it.

Yeah, maybe There is some rust inside, but I'm going to give it a good wash tomorrow before we bring it inside. I'll take pics when finished. Can't wait to stock up on food and organize it. I missed out on whole chickens for .69 cents a lb because I only had room for 10 lbs.
