Ok, I used to always use ammonia in my shampooer- does an absolutely phenomenal job! However- to fuzz, an ammonia shampooed carpet smells like a very large potty box ;D Needless to say, I went to something else pretty quickly! I found Nature's Miracle carpet shampoo, and absolutely love it. Get's the pet smell out, and leaves everything so fresh. Problem- I cannot find it around here anywhere!!! What does everyone else use for a pet friendly shampoo now?

I like to use the Rug doctor's product. They make a pet formula carpet cleaner that I like to use.
I hope this helps

Vinegar? I use it in my steamer. I'm pretty sure it cleans the steamer out too very well.

I use simple solution in both my carpet machine and my hard floor cleaner.

I gather that Simple Solution removes all the animal smell?

yeah, I don't have the bottle handy, but it's enzyme based, it doesn't have an overly chemical scent, actually the scent isnt all that bad (no eo's that I've found), takes care of cat pee smells and dog too much liver last night poo smells. Also will take the smell out of your car's carpet if the monster kid in the back seat chucks their milk cup to the floor and spills milk that you don't discover until the car has been sitting for 8 hours inthe hot florida summer sun (blech) and if meat "juices" leak out of grocery bags it will clean that up too.... I use it inbetween cage scrub downs for litter box misses. I use the regular Simple Solution, no oxy or extreme crapola in my opinion that's just marketings way to get you to pay more for something that probably won't work any better than what you've already got on hand..usually in a 1 1/2 gallon bottle for about $23. or so I mix it half and half with water in a spray bottle for cage cleaning, use it in the carpet and floor machines like I would carpet shampoo using what ever measure each individual machine requires... I also spray it full strenth on the couches, upholstered chairs, and the curtians instead of freebreeze (which sometimes gives me the sneezes) to freshen things up because with 11 ferrets, 4 cats, 3 pits, and 3 kids...well, things can be stinky!

I'm ify on the simple solution. I bought it because I couldnt find NM at petsmart and while it smells good and does half way decent job on stains.. it doesnt get rid of ALL of the smell. I just use woolite's pet stain carpet remover.. I pretreat and then after the carpet dries I scrub some baking soda in and vaccum it back up 15 minutes later. I do have white carpet though so i dont see the residue.
Rug doctor carpet cleaner does work pretty well too though.
Oh and I almost always add in 1/2 cup of oxy clean per gallon to my cleaning solution

A couple of years ago, my little Chihuahua became incontinent in her old age due to a myriad of health issues.. I was living in an apartment at the time and almost always came home to several messes on the beige carpet. My aunt worked in a packaging company that packages this stuff, and she sent me a few various bottles of product to try and the spot carpet cleaner cleaned up EVERY single spot and made the carpet look better than the rest of the apartment.. lol Unfortunately, I think you can only buy it in bulk it's meant for commercial use so cleaning companies use the stuff.. but it's amazing stuff and I've yet to use any other products to clean my house. If you can find it elsewhere NOT in bulk, it's definitely worth it. www.northwoodstm.comapologies for sounding like a saleswoman, I'm a clean freak
