I am going to see if I can find a pic that someone had posted on the fb group. We all actually thought distemper at first due to the crustiness around the mouth and nose. Turned out to be bacterial.

I was wrong- it wasn't an infection, it was a spider bite. And it was Lindsey's boy Freeman:

I believe he was given some preventative antibiotics and healed up well. Honestly not sure how they figured it out, but will message her.

Thank u. I would appreciate that. Bandits mouth looks very similar to that pic. His front paw pads are still swollen and have the reddish rashy stuff around each of the pads. He did throw up late last night, but he is still eating fine and even though I can tell he doesn't feel well he isn't really sick either.

Could he have developed an allergy to something?

Chronic allergies I believe had been looked at previously due to Bandit's continuous ill health, but I don't know if a trial of benedryl had been done or not.

Thanks agAin everyone!!!!! As per the allergies - we have long suspected Bandit had allergies but other than to chicken we don't know to what and Bandit has been a sickie his whole life with so many crazy problems that this could really be anything. As per the test results - there wasn't any tests ran. The only way to test for distemper is crazy invasive and doesn't always yield proper results so we opted against this. Since we have no clue what is wrong there weren't any tests ran other than the vet taking some staining slides of the *stuff* around Bandits mouth and paws - which told us there was a bacterial infection of sorts . My vet sent us home with 10 days of Clavamox and a 'wait and see' program. If things don't improve he will go back in next week.

At this point, i'm doubtful as far as distemper goes. I don't believe his symptoms have progressed much, right? As it is unique to different ferrets how their bodies react to distemper, i have a bit of hope now that it's just an allergy. i really hope the clav works and that it's just bacterial.
