Just curious if ferrets could eat gophers as a whole prey item? Assuming they were frozen for at least 2 weeks? Is there any kind of diseases or other icky stuff they could get from them?
My boyfriend wants to start hunting next year so I could feed deer and duck parts and such to the ferrets but I was thinking if I started to feed the ferrets more whole prey items, such as gophers, small rabbits, grouse and other small birds, it would be good for them.

Given that gopher is the mainstay for black footed ferrets I don't see why not!

I fed mine gophers this year. We were out with hunting with our bows. If he is gun hunting obviously just make sure you get the bullet shards out. I also cut the gophers open before I fed it just to make sure there wasn't anything off going on inside. I froze them for 3 weeks and then offered them and it went over really well. Duck carcasses go over REALLY well too, my guys even eat the feet. Duck gizzards do stink though when you cut them open to clean them lol. Especially if you end up with the larger mallards.
