My jiggly ball of ferret jelly (Hannable) has recently blown his coat and probably dropped close to 1lb and he's acting like a crazy ferret.. went from being lazy and sleeping all the time and being a total cuddle bug to me litterally chasing him around pulling him off of counters, desks, coffee tables or whatever else he can get up on to or into that he shouldnt be. I swear following him is a full time job.
Is 1lb weight loss for spring something I should worry about? I mean he eats/plays/poops/drinks just fine.. I don't think he sits still long enough for any fat to accumulate! wakes up at the drop of a hat, always go go go..

Depending on the individual ferret, they can gain/lose up to 40% of their body weight. Vincent gained about 1/3 this past winter(1 lb), and he's now starting to take it back off. Lucrezia gained 1/4(1/2 lb).

Spring weight loss can indeed be very scary. If you have other symptoms that are giving you concern, still treat the weight loss as symptomatic. If you're only seeing weight loss, observe but don't get overly excited. I keep track of my guys with a monthly chart. That way I can look back over the length of time that I've had the fuzz and see what the spring weight loss is and compare. I have noted that the weight loss from year to year doesn't vary much, though weight loss between ferrets can be huge. I've got some who vary only by an ounce or two and others that loose huge amounts ciao

Ok CandyKitten here you go! www.holisticferret60.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=fuzz&thread=1354I also forgot to add that Koda is at his summer weight now as well, and any pictures I have posted in the last many months have been his winter weight. Still though, he is a very skinny guy and one day he looks fine, another he looks like a corpse. *grumbles something unintelligible and R-rated about IBD* ( someone has yucky poops today ).

Accodlin yes significant weight loos is normal for summertime. I think - you guys might want to sit down for this one - Kenai is losing weight! I am saddened by it. I weighed him several weeks ago and he was 3 lb. Then I weighed him the other day and he was only just over 2 lb! I want him to stay fat and fluffy and chubby and lazy for forever! He is shedding too. Or about to anyways - right now he is juust barely starting to shed, like an itch here, a stray guard hair there... *sigh* I guess it had to happen sooner or later, and I am interested to see what his summer coat/weight will look like!

Kenai reminds me of Trixie - she lost all her baby flub. Now she's just under 2 lbs

It was so funny! I have a shipping box that I have a dog bed in that have a few holes cut in the side (that way the cats can't pee on the bed and they have a nice cozy sleepy spot that they won't accidentally stepped on) and here I am playing with Tai and Gypsy who are being all happy and bouncy and Tai grabs my hand and starts pulling and backing up into the box! I was shocked as all h*ll because she's my lazy fatty girl and has NEVER even thought about using her teeth....
