My boys seem to have SOOO much energy lately! And the extra cage-time due to finals is not helping. Anyone else have crazy weasels right now? Here are 2 videos. They are long but very cute! Part one Part two

Teddy's been really energetic lately! Bouncing and war-dancing all over the place, and even seeking Forest (our kitten) out to play with him. They have a blast. I think now that he's on all raw soup only now (hurrah!) he is just feeling so much better all over and full of energy and more kisses. His new favorite game is to find meat storage/portioning for freezing containers and drag them all into a heap, or better yet, under the futon. Silly fuzzy even tried to run off with the deep freezer the other day, but it wouldn't budge of course! LOL. He's been pushing the water dish over, playing in DH's beat up work pants, and attempting to drag just about every heavy thing he can think of around... Yesterday he was sloshing the big watering dish in the living room so much I filled the tub partly and dumped him in to swim - he gave me a look, "I iz nut amuzed." And then physically THREW himself out in such a jump his tummy fur didn't even touch the side of the tub. Several times. I threw a ball in there and he walked around a little but water just wasn't fun anymore.

I have a crazy weasel! He sure is losing the rest of his pred weight now, haha! He's back to chasing my feet, peeking over the coffee table to stalk/wardance at me, rolling rattly balls everywhere, and generally living up to his mobster ferret name. I need a new digicam so I can share videos of this silly boy!

Just the one video he looks kinda off Thanks! Yes Koda is the smaller, darker sable ferret. And he is suspected Adrenal and just got his second lurpon shot while we wait for Des implants (they are on backorder). He also has IBD. Which video and what part of it? What makes you say that? I am very curious to know how you could tell. IMO he looks normal just skinny. Good eye btw. I am impressed.

I'm sorry to hear I've had a weird ability to pick things out with animals most people don't notice. I think it's bc I pay very very close attention. I was able to pick up on my first horse going lame just from a slight change in her gait. What made me wonder was video part 2. He seems thinner then in part one as well as slightly hunched, which I've noticed watching videos of other adrenal ferrets. It also seems like he is losing hair towards his back end and his overall coat colour is off. He is also verrryy aggressivly playing and almost harassing Kenai. Kenai seems to get desperate to be away from him in some parts. Again I'm very sorry to hear But you caught it early! Are you going to go ahead with surgery?

What made me wonder was video part 2. He seems thinner then in part one as well as slightly hunched, which I've noticed watching videos of other adrenal ferrets. The first and second videos were taken within minutes of each other. It also seems like he is losing hair towards his back end and his overall coat color is off. This is an illusion. I am not quite sure why it looks like that? I didn't catch it. His coat is actually quite full, and even all over. He had a period after his first Lupron shot where he started shedding again (he'd already blown his winter coat and grown a summer coat) but that stopped and the summer coat returned very quickly. Both videos were taken last night. Like I said his coat is thick, soft, and even. Must be the lighting. As far as the color being off, what do you mean by "off?" That is how is coat has always looked (disregarding seasonal changes, and transition from kit to adult coat of course). The lighting and how it appears on your computer screen might have an affect? But I assure you his coat is a beautiful sable and is very rich and even and normal in color. He is also verrryy aggressivly playing and almost harassing Kenai. Kenai seems to get desperate to be away from him in some parts. This is hard to say. First off, Koda is an RC ferret. He has from Day One, had much more energy and "aggression" than most ferrets, and Definitely a TON more so than any Marshalls ferret. This is another thing that has been a constant from his kit age. He has always played rough. He is also very mouthy and was a biter as a kit - it took many many months to teach him to use his teeth gently. It's how RC ferrets are. They are rougher, rowdier, too intelligent for their own good, and tend to be more bite-y and with stronger bites. Koda is a wrestling, rough housing, ambush-attacking, chase-initiating, foot chomping, hand nipping kind of guy. THAT said, he did go through a phase of very bad sexual aggression towards Kenai before his first Lupron. The behavior started to return as the first one faded but it was very mild - only the occasional mounting a few times. Maybe 3 times total compared to multiple times daily and he was much less determined about it. He got his second shot a few days ago so it is possible that is contributing. BUT That said also, this is just how Koda IS. haha This is his behavior, and always has been. He is a very rambunctious little guy. My feet can attest to that. ;D Kenai on the other hand, is a total spazz, but is also a big weenie. He also likes to RUN like a lunatic. He holds his own though and there are plenty of times where Koda is "desperate" to get away from Kenai! ;D ;D Also, I have seen him Actually desperate to get away from Koda (during mounting episodes before Lupron ) and this is just ferrety play. Any "desperation" is just Weenai-Kenai put off that he is not winning. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Again I'm very sorry to hear But you caught it early! Are you going to go ahead with surgery? No. I see no need. If he IS actually Adrenal (there is still a possibility that he just had..well, "Spring Fever" lol) then it is in the very early stages. There is a chance he was just amped up for "mating season" and it is not adrenal at all. I will continue with treatment regardless as Des is a good preventative. Kenai might get the Des next year too. Surgery has a very high incidence of recurrence, and is very expensive, and invasive. Surgery, IMO, should always be the last resort. For people and animals alike. He will only get the surgery if it becomes a necessity.

By off I meant.. I've seen a few pics of him around the fourm and in the video his coat seems more yellowish, not as bright, and not as full (could be attributed to shedding). He also seems to have lost weight from other pictures I have seen. Tbh I mentioned the second video bc that was where I clued in to him looking kinda sick. I didn't notice it while watching the first video. And I also have a RC weasel (that's my Percy) and as everyone in my family knows he loves to play rough. Koda just seemed to have a different intensity about him rather then JUST play. But I have no medical training as well as never experienced having an adrenal ferret so it's mostly just me guessing. Hopefully it's just spring changes and everything is A Ok.

By off I meant.. I've seen a few pics of him around the fourm and in the video his coat seems more yellowish, not as bright, and not as full (could be attributed to shedding).Hmm... his coat usually has a rich yellow undertone to it. However, the lighting in my room is very yellow. Also, the lighting in Shane's room is less so. I seem to take most of my pictures at Shane's house (probably because the lighting is usually better haha) so perhaps that accounts for it? I will try to get some pictures tonight at Shane's and see what you think of his coat in different lighting. I look at him every day so it is possible it has gotten more yellow and it's just been gradual so I didn't notice. He also seems to have lost weight from other pictures I have seen. Yeah.... THAT would be the IBD. His weight fluctuates a lot, and stress causes his IBD to act up. And wacky hormones is a stress...so before the first Lupron shot he was looking very skinny. He has actually gained weight though according to the vet the other day! BUT, after the vet on Monday, Tuesday night he had an episode of throwing up. Probably due to the stress of the visit and blood draw. The videos were taken last night (so Wednesday) so it is very possible that that is why he looks so thin in the videos despite having gained a little weight. It doesn't take much for ferret's weight to fluctuate drastically . Tbh I mentioned the second video bc that was where I clued in to him looking kinda sick. I didn't notice it while watching the first video.Hmm interesting. Just because you didn't notice, or perhaps something about the video itself? And I also have a RC weasel (that's my Percy) and as everyone in my family knows he loves to play rough. Koda just seemed to have a different intensity about him rather then JUST play. I forgot to mention that they have been caged a lot more recently due to school being in the Finals stage, so what you are seeing is partly revenge tantrums and pent up energy. ;D Also, it is warming up significantly here so they are getting Spring Fever and have just been crazier than usual recently anyways. (Part of why they are caged also - it's hard to focus on studying for an exam with Extra-Wild Weasels going nuts every 3 seconds lmao). But like I said, it is hard to tell on this one. He did just get his second shot, and the first one had been just starting to wear off so it very well could be the adrenal-aggression. But I have no medical training as well as never experienced having an adrenal ferret so it's mostly just me guessing. Hopefully it's just spring changes and everything is A Ok. I hope so, but I doubt it. I think he is in early stages of adrenal. But I like to stay hopeful, so as long as there is a chance it is not, I will desperately cling to that chance. Like I said, either way we are treating it as if it is adrenal, that way worst case scenario we are treating it early, best case we are doing some good preventative treatments. My gut rings pretty true with Koda though (well, in general really) and I think he does have early adrenal. I forgot to mention in regards to the last post as well. Your comment on the hunched appearance is interesting. I am going to go search around for some pictures and watch Koda closer tonight. I will try to get some pictures too in different lighting. Who doesn't want to see more weasel pictures anyways?

Oh yeah. And I didn't know that Percy is an RC! haha Very cool. I love RC's. The only reason I got a Marshalls (Kenai) was because a) he stole my heart :-*and b) the pets stores up here stopped carrying RC ferrets after the whole lung-bacteria issue.
