As I've mentioned in another post, one of my ferrets, Sugar, hunts our other pets. We cannot allow them to be free in the apartment or in the same room because she will attack their hind legs at full speed with fangs bared (well, wide open mouth). Now, when we let them roam the full apartment, we put the cats in the bedroom for an hour or two. Well, it seems Sugar can still smell the cats if they're close to the door. These are picture of her, very insistingly, trying to get in the room - all the while clucking loudly.

Lol! Most non ferret people don't believe me when I say most of mine want to eat the kitty. I used to have a few who wanted to be friends, but the rest go for the ankles or jump on her back trying to bring her down, she's learned to steer clear now, she's got plenty of high up places they cannot get to.

Hehe, I'm cat sitting later this month. I'm worried about Siren, she could be dangerous. Vixen I think will be fine.

Mine have always had a one track mind when it comes to cats...and they definitely consider them prey. The jills tend to ignore them after getting slapped in the face a couple times, but the hobs never give up. I'm down to one 14 year old cat now, and every so often I have to rescue her because she didn't head for higher ground before a hob found her and got her by the back of the neck.

I have to agree. I've got a couple of boys who think nothing at all of hunting the cats and they're persistant. People think I'm crazy when I tell them that bringing in small kittens is ok, but ferrets believe they're prey and I would have serious concerns about bringing in a young kitten who wouldn't be able to defend themselves against such an aggressive hunter ciao

Suki is our only "hunter" where the cats are concerned. They've all learned to be wary of our oldest cat- he's bloody strong with those paws. Herne is too fast for them, and will whack them all, and they back off completely shocked. Watson is quite literally petrified of Suki, because she overwhelms him she's so fast. She tries that with all of them but Mr. Stubbs(oldest cat). Zeus will nip them in the back legs until he gets thwacked. Ligeia. Well- Vincent is madly, passionately in love with Ligeia. He will try to burrow under her tummy, and just lay there with her growling, yowling, and snarling. Then try to burrow under her even farther That was fine, til he tried stashing her one day. Didn't go over so well

I have 5 cats and there is only one that the ferrets all hunt. He has to go in the basement when the ferrets are running free. I've caught Huck and Sid chomped on to his nose too many times. I think he deserves it though. Neo, the cat picks on the smaller, older ferrets all the time.

I must have weird ferrets....they've never shown any interest inthe cats and after Sh1tty Kitty tried playing with them and failed the cats stay away....

That's too funny! I never knew ferrets acted this way around cats. Sounds adorable and kinda scary ;D

One of cats is a paranoid schizophrenic, or at least, I'm convinced she would be if she were human. She thinks everyone is out to get her so she already has a healthy paranoia of the ferrets. She stays out of their way at all times.
Our other cat doesn't have a mean bone in her body and frequently has to be rescued from the white fury thing chasing her around or hanging off her hind quarters. (It's gotten especially bad since Sugar's jaws have gotten stronger on bone/chunks.) Plus, she's not smart enough to stay on high ground at all times.

Makes perfect sense, after all, ferrets consider rabbets prey and I'm pretty shire cats are a few inches smaller. Of course if a ferret is young enough the cat will go for it. Also, wolves volosaraptors, jaguars, lions, hyenas, bears, tigers, saber tooth, these do not by nature get along with each other. Why would they just like that get along behind mans messy urban walls?

LOL. These are all great stories. Figaro (the elder) ignores Teddy and vice versa. Forest (older kitten) and Teddy play raucously. Sometimes they seek each other out.

Harlequin [tortie kitty] is terrified of the ferrets and prefers to hide in the bedroom when they're out.
Kori [calico, old grumpy girl] ignores them unless they get too close, then she'll give them a resounding smack (Min has learned to leave her alone).
Molly (tabby) loves to chase and play with both ferrets.. and they love to play with her!
