It's good that she's feeling a bit better, but it's good that you have an opening for the vet because that little one needs to get it. keep us updated!

Since she's in with others, she may have passed whatever it is, but it's buried in there. Hopefully. Let us know what they find.

Taking everything into consideration, her age, cost, my other pets (I need to be able to afford their vet bills and I wouldnt be able to if I had to pay for a $1500 surgery) I decided to have her put to sleep. The vet said it felt like a cube and then I remembered a few days ago they got into a mini yahtzee game and she must of eaten one of the dice so it was preventable and I feel terrible.

That is a shame. He wont even work out a payment plan? sometimes a ferret shelter will take them in and help them but you will have to surrender her. This is just my opinion, and in no way am I trying to judge you. But after you put her to sleep, I would not replace her with another pet or ferret. when you have animals, you have to be able to cover disasters and emergency surgeries. Sometimes "ferret math" is not so good for the ferrets. It is better to have one or two pets and give them excellent care. My mother has 7 or 8 cats. They don't have good veterinary care because there are too many if them and she can't afford it. Last month one of her cats died of a blockage (I strongly suspect it was at least he was 13 years old and otherwise healthy)-- and she couldn't afford the tests.

I already had her put to sleep. My mom tried to get care credit but she wasnt approved. I dont plan on getting any more pets and I am thinking about rehoming some of them so this doesnt happen again.

I'm sorry that you lost your girl. Situations like that are never fun and that is a hard decision to have to make. When Koda had his blockage I ended up having to take out another student loan for his surgery. It's a heavy burden that I was just beginning to recover from when I had to take him in and pay a lot of $ for his IBD. Then my car stared needing several repairs, and tuition was increased. Having ferrets is tough. They can go from happy and healthy one second to needing several thousand dollars worth of vet care the next. It's something that you can't predict, all you can do is prepare for it. That sucks your Mom was not approved for Care Credit. That makes things much more difficult. Out of curiosity did they say why she was turned down? That's a first that I have heard and I would be interested in the reason why - because I have an ig who could potentially need a $1500+ surgery and I was planning on Care Credit if that happens. I always assumed anyone and everyone was approved so now I'm concerned. You can always PM me if you prefer. I'd appreciate the tip though. How many other pets do you have? Just the ferrets? You mentioned rehoming. If it is just the ferrets (you had 3 correct?) I would not split them up. It will already be very hard on them to have lost their sister. Splitting the two of them would be devastating. I hope that you are able to keep them, but if you Do decide that you need to rehome them, I would do whatever it takes to ensure they stay together. Heather made a wonderful post on helping ferrets grieve, I suggest reading it as it will help you guide your babies through their grief - they are sad too.

Grr my phone didn't let me finish my post.
The last thing I wanted to add was this. I would start a savings account now for an emergency fund. Perhaps get a tutoring job, donate blood, work on the weekends, or something along those lines. It doesn't have to be a lot but it will add up. Put the money you make all into savings for a few months until you have a nice emergency backup fund of at least $1000. That way if - Heaven Forbid - you are faced with a horrible situation like this again, you will at least have that to lean back on.
*hugs to you and your 2 fuzz* It is hard losing a fur friend. When you are up to it you can make her a thread to honor her life in the Rainbow Bridge board. She'll be waiting at the Rainbow Bridge playing in the sun. Rest in peace little Rena.

Approval of care credit is based on credit history and score. I know a couple people who've been turned down. :-(

Oh, no.. I am so so sorry If it was in her that long for her to lose weight, she may have already hemorrhaged. I did a $1000 surgery on one of my boys who still died from infection, and was only blocked for a day or two. I know you feel right now like it's your fault. I felt that way a long time, and still do somewhat. But look at all the responsible ferret owners here who have had things like that happen before. There's no way possible to protect them from everything in life. They are our children and it is our obligation to do our best, but there is no way to prevent every single bad thing from happening 100% of the time. Don't torture yourself over this. Grieve for your loss, but please don't forget how devoted a ferrent you were, and that mistakes happen. Again, I'm so so sorry for your loss.

Yeah she is right. s*&t happens no matter how careful we are. One of mine swallowed a half an earplug once. Another one poisoned himself eating Halloween chocolate. He died and I felt horrible because we could have prevented it but we didn't know he was stealing chocolate from the coffee table and stashing it until it was too late and he'd already eaten his own weight in kit kats. These animals really know how to get themselves into danger.
