I looked a few pages back and didn't see a post like this so I thought I'd make this one.
My family back east want me to visit for the winter holidays, but seeing as I have a little furbaby now, I don't think it's something I can or want to do. It seems zero airlines offer travel with a ferret as anything but cargo, not even Delta. I really don't want to put him below, because it's such a scary thing to do to him, as well as knowing that they could lose him or leave him out on the hot tarmac too long. I'm just not comfortable with that. And, I can't drive out, it's just way too far (across the entire country) and my car is a lease...
Do you guys know any airlines at all that consider ferrets as important as cats or dogs?
I don't really have any family or friends here I could have ferret-sit, or at least people I can even trust to do so. And really, I'm not keen on leaving him behind for about a week even with someone, it's just too long. I know if it comes down to me telling my family out there I can't go because of my pet, they will be pretty angry, but honestly his comfort is more important to me than their hurt feelings...
Is there any advice on traveling you guys might be able to help with? I would appreciate it!

Send Henrika a message she travels regularly and has her wee boy shipped to meet her.

Ahh, thank you! I'll message her when I get home. Honestly I just am looking into things people have done and say is okay! It's pretty disappointing that major airlines recognize cats and dogs, but not ferrets, as important enough to share the cabin space. In my opinion my little stinker is so much better behaved than my dogs or cats usually are!

I believe she does have her lad shipped in cargo, but some airlines take MUCH better care of live animals than others.

You know honestly that makes all the difference to me, especially as when I called to ask Delta, they were pretty rude to me about it! It helps if they have a good standing with other fuzzy owners!

I wonder if you were to claim him as a companion helper pet, you'd likely need a dr note though

He is he is! I wonder if I could, or if ferrets are accepted helper pets. I will look into this and post my findings for anyone interested!

I may be wrong, but I was told that airlines won't even fly ferrets if temperatures are above a certain degree.
I know you don't want to put the miles on your car, but maybe an economy rental?

And no, even as a companion/therapy animal they aren't permitted in cabin.

Ugh, that sucks. I would be scared to death for them to be in cargo. I am a worry wart though

Oh haha, now she has two messages! I messaged too.
Yeah, cargo makes me nervous too, only because he's so small and I just feel like he'd be nervous. I'm thinking of being the person who tells the family I'm not going (though i know they'll be upset, but personally he's of utmost importance to me before their stuff).

Most carriers are in the process of no longer allowing pets (cats or dogs) in the cabin but in general...there are no carriers that permit ferrets to fly in cabin. The easiest method, though expensive is to deal with a pet travel broker who has access to the best and shortest flights for your destinations. Some airlines won't deal with you unless you use a broker. They arrange for the flight and the special clearances that are needed to allow the pet to fly. Unfortunately, your ferret will have to fly cargo. There are special animal transporters who cater to the furry jet setting crowd but I don't even want to think what it costs to arrange for one of these special commuter type flights ciao
