I took Kahlua, our Grand Old Lady (she's well past 8 yo), to be helped across the Rainbow Bridge this morning. She's been battling adrenal and insulinoma for some time, as well as being deaf her whole life and recently losing her sight. The last month she's been steadily declining. We were expecting she'd go in her sleep, but instead we'd find that she dragged herself to the litter box and didn't have the energy left to walk back to her hammock. It's amazing how much fight this tiny little lady had put up, but she barely had the strength left to eat. She was barely 2 pounds in her prime, but she was a shoe thief (especially flip flops) and she didn't just stash them under a bed, but behind dressers and china cabinets, in drawers, etc, so you really had to search for them. Even after going blind she managed to continue putting shoes away for us. She was one who knew exactly how hard she could nip and get away with it. When she wanted attention or treats, she'd nip your toes. Kahlua decided to leave us in the exam room before the vet saw her. She "pulled a Frank" on me, making it to the vet but going before it cost us any money. (Frank checked out on the table while the vet was trying to give him a PTS injection) She was one of Dar's originals, whom she got in 2007, age unknown at that time. She's buried under a jasmine plant by the screened porch where she spent so much time and overlooking the pond. Good-bye Angel. Mommy and Daddy could not have asked for a sweeter girl.

A travelling candle is lit for your gorgeous wee girlie, to guide her paws onto her next great adventure. Gone is the exhaustion, gone is the horrible feelings of being unwell....no longer do you have to fight to just lift your head. Once again, you are free to dance and dook in the moonlight, to drink the dew from flowers and to race and chase with those who are walking the path with you. Fly high little one, little shooting star....gentle journey little girl, sweet Kahlua ciao

Condolences on Kahluas passing. I know you were dreading the next time you had to help a wee one cross because you have had some bad experiences. Kahlua gave you one final gift just as you were preparing to give her that final gift of love.
