I use regular nail clippers for mine, but those shouldn't be any more prone to damaging the nail than any other cutters that bear down (always a risk of splintering/crushing the nail with these), though there is a heightened risk with any clippers if they are dulled. Definitely try the vitamin E, especially around the nail beds and see if that helps, you might also look into a taurine supplement, as taurine deficiency can effect nails as well.

For the vitamin E, do you just mean hand cream? I tried looking for vitamin E and all i got were tablets

No, not really. Stores here carry either capsules you can prick and use, or Vit. E oil you can rub in. If you can't find either of those, look around for taurine and try that, he may just need an extra boost (and if that's not it, it won't hurt, as the body gets rid of it fairly easily, which is why it's pretty easy to become deficient in it). If that doesn't improve the nail, it might be normal for him.

you're welcome and the forum's auto correct of "buzzard" is actually hilarious, hahaha. I didn't see that when I posted. I meant poke a hole in it ;D

I thought i would post an update on the menu we're using at the minute. I'd love to post weights too but i've decided the scales we have are crap and im on the look out for some better ones ^_^ So here goes:
Monday AM: Heart Monday PM: Chicken bone Tuesday AM: turkey thighs Tuesday PM: Chicken bones Wednesday AM: chicken bone wednesday pm: chicken bone thursday am: heart thursday pm: chicken bone friday am: liver and kidney friday pm: chicken bone saturday am: pork saturday pm: chicken bone sunday am: mince (pork and beef) sunday pm: chicken bone
I know its a lot of chicken bone but im really struggling to find anything else to replace it with, so i've just removed all other chicken from their diet. I know i can get hold of rabbit, which they have tried and i do have some of so i'll alternate with that sometimes too. They haven't actually tried the kidneys yet but im hoping it'll all go well, and they've tried pork before and weren't massively keen but i thought i'd give it another go. I use ox hearts, lamb's liver and pig kidneys to mix up the proteins a bit.
We have no real problems really for the most part; i have cut down the portion sizes to 6oz (so 2oz each twice a day) because i found they we're stashing most of it and i was just throwing it away. I can always up it again if need be. My biggest problem is Missy (oh, thats our DEWs new name by the way, used to be Luna). She has decided she prefers kibble again. Originally she was wolfing down any muscle meat we gave her, wasn't keen on organs and bone but now she barely touches anything, just chows on kibble. She likes turkey and she comped some heart the other day but only a little. She just turns her nose up at everything else. Just going to persevere for a little bit and they maybe try and trick her into it somehow if that fails. My other problem is Jasper; his poops are really odd. From what i can gather, they are never normal. Obviously for the most part they share litter boxes so its not easy to tell but he does have one by his favorite sleepy spot which only he uses so thats what im judging by. They can go from really dark and unformed to formed and really dry. Im also pretty sure he isn't pooping as often (or he has found a new space to poop in because i put a little box in the way of his old one, which is more likely). They love egg yolk so i've given him one just in case he had a hair ball or something but he seems okay. Acting his usual mischievous self. They all generally sleep a lot more during they day, but thats because i now work more hours.
This is more of a general question, but in terms of seasonal changes im sure i've read they eat more during autumn and winter, when does this typically start? Is it based on daylight or temperature?

Hi, your mentor has been having trouble accessing this site. We'll help out until she's sorted. With Missy, remove the kibble from the house, seal it up in the fridge, something. If she can smell it, she'll hold out. If need be start hand feeding a soup again until she's back where she was. Winter appetites kick in depending on the light. For your pictures, the ones needed for this program, while adorable, need to be of them from above so we can see the body shape, and if they seem to be losing, gaining, or stable

Missy is doing much better with eating meat, still a work in progress but loads better. I've discovered that if i hold a bit of meat above her head she'll eat it, bones and all, she'd still rather be hand fed than eat from a bowl though, but she'll get there My camera is not my biggest friend but i'll give it a go and try and get some pictures

Something to try with Missy- using a shower hook skewer the meat and hang it for her. It might really help. She seems to need something to work against to rip and tear.

I'm finally back! So sorry for being gone so long - my internet has been sketchy, to say the least. And thank you Sherry, for taking this on for me while I was dealing with connection issues I appreciate it. Aredhel, have you tried the showerhooks that Sherry suggested? Since Missy seems to like that position, I'd work with it (as well as getting that kibble as stashed away as possible. Kibble heads are hard to convince to switch if they even THINK kibble is anywhere in the house).
