Hey that's okay, I'm just glad you are back!
First off, I have reviewed your previous posts and how much Teddy has been eating and he's actually been doing pretty good for it being his first month on raw. Which is why I was never that concerned before. Some ferrets won't even take a lick of raw for months and I mean months and months!
However, if he is being stubborn about it now to the point of starving himself, you do need to make sure he is getting some food in him.
Now I know that you mentioned you took the kibble away back when he was doing better with the raw soup... Do the ferrets have any access to kibble right now?
You definitely need to make sure Teddy is still getting kibble. The others are doing well enough that they should fill up on raw soup and won't bother eating much or any of the kibble, so do not worry about them back-tracking right now.
Our main concern is Teddy. Make sure he has access to kibble. Except do take it away for at least 4-6 hours before offering him raw soup to get him hungry. This means pick the kibble up first thing in the morning, and put raw soup in the cage. Teddy won't eat it on his own but the others will. Then in 4-6 hours try finger feeding.
Do this for about 10-15 minutes. Rub it on his gums, scruff and stuff him, get him eating it. He will eat about a tbsp at a time, this is good.
However you need to keep offering and forcing him to eat that tbsp or however much he will eat, THROUGHOUT the day.
I realize this may be hard while you are working. But if you can come home on lunch or get someone else to, then definitely do.
As MANY times a day as you can, take 5 or 10 minutes and feed him as much soup as he can get. Seriously do it every hour or two if you can.
The idea is to fill him up enough that he will start to not bother with the kibble. And to make him taste it enough that he will realize that it is yummy and not poison.
Worst comes to worst if it is absolutely not working, sprinkle some kibble crumbs on top. See how that goes.
If that's a no go, then take some of the cooked soup that he likes and start to slowly add a tiny tiny bit of raw soup in.
Increase the raw soup and decrease the cooked soup gradually. Only do this with Teddy. Make sure you have a can of plain pumpkin on hand. If his poops start to get icky, give him 1 tsp of pumpkin per day to help firm them up.
So here is our game plan:
1) give Teddy his kibble back at night
2) remove kibble in the morning and put raw soup in the cage for the ferrets
3) finger feed teddy raw soup in the morning before work or if you will be home that day, wait 4-6 hours to feed him then feed him raw soup with your finger.
4) finger feed him as many times as you can throughout the day.
5) if he won't take to the soup sprinkle crushed kibble on top
6) if that doesn't work, then do the mixing cooked soup with raw soup method, give a tsp of pumpkin per day if poop starts to get yucky
And MOST importantly, you need to check into this thread EVERY OTHER day. If you can do it every day please do! I need you to find the time, do it while you are in the bathroom if you have to! Just check in so we can stay on top of Teddy. Your sporadic posting is part of the reason this switch has been tricky.
How does that sound?
