Hi, I recently got a fuzzie who has broken an missing teeth. He has been eating like its going to be taken from him, and I was wondering if letting him continue will cause problems? He was under weight when I got him and i put a lil duck soup powder on the kibble to help with things. He still doesnt try the raw food when offered, and I'm still trying to convience him its good stuff. Any and all advice is welcome. we go to the vet next week. thanks

Sure sounds like he needed a good, loving home. If he's underweight and seems afraid you'll take his food away, I would let him eat as much as he wants for now, and work on bonding and reassuring him that he is safe. How old do you think he is?

He's around 4to 5 yrs. I think. Hard to tell. He has all his hair and no lumps that i can feel. I put a shirt of mine in the cage so he can be used to my scent. Is their anything else you can think of that i may try. He has a water bowl and bottle in cage. I cuddle him and offer toys. He doesnt seem to be with fever and breaths clearly. Eyes are bright and drinks plenty plenty. Bm looks ok an norm.

I haven't switched mine to raw yet. Both of mine have only been with me for a few weeks, so I've been doing alot of reading first. I have offered (very soft) scrambled eggs, I've breaded (using smooshed kibble) raw chicken slices and put chicken gizzards (or a cut up chicken wing) into a bowl with water as a sort of soup. The more experienced ferrents suggested those recipes. Roamy and Juliet will eat these if I sit on the floor with them, and hand feed them. My Juliet wants to stash everything, so I count the pieces and then have to steal them back. In the meantime, I learned about good kibble and that's what they have in their bowl at night. I ordered the Wysong Epigen 90 for them, based on forum ferrents recommendations.

Mine are on foster and smith premium. I have it sent directly to the house. And I have been using salmon fillet and ribeye for the raw. Am adding rabbit soon. I had carpet sharks in the past and they all thrived. These guys came from a different situation, and the new babe was abused before i got him and surrendered to a pet shoIp. They knew nothing about him other than isn't in good shape. I paid the hundred bucks and brought him home. Getting his shots and blood work asap. He loves his duck soup but not so happy with the baby food or raw. He sticks his tounge out alot and I'm not sure if it's health related or just a cute habit. He let me hold him without wanting down or being terrorized today and last night. If nothing else he's wanted now and will be given the best care I can.

Thank you for taking this little fuzz in, rescues can be a lot of work but the rewards are totally worth the worry and stress. I'd say let him eat as much as he wants, and keep persisting with the raw, they do eventually "get it". Does he chew his food on the side of his mouth opposite to the broken teeth? Any drooling or pawing at his mouth? These could all be indicative of pain. That being said ferrets like to break their canines (both Eddie and Izzie have lopsided smiles, and Shelby had a big chip in his canine and was missing a couple of incisors) but because the pulp is so short it's often not an issue for them. When you have him checked by a vet have them look at his teeth and see what they say.

Thanks, and he will be getting a full work up done. As well as vaccines and revolution. Is the tounge hanging out a sign of pain. I keep my house around 68 degrees. So i dont think it's from heat. And does anyone feed deer meat. A local butcher gave me the legs n such for my dogs and I have thought to try the carpet sharks on it. They have lots of meat on them. And it's multiple teeth damaged. He moves the food around alot in the mouth. And I have checked and found no sore spots.

Ferrets stick their tongues out naturally....if you mean hanging out as in like a dog panting, you may have a problem. If he's missing teeth he may have an infection or a broken tooth that you're unaware of that may be causing pain. His mouth sounds a mess. Make sure that when you vet him that you have the vet carefully check his mouth ciao
