I was just wondering if you can feed canned plain sardines, I thought maybe it would be a good snack or treat once in a while since its healthy has all the organs and bones, plus id like to teach novak to fish so this could potentially get him interested in the taste.. THANK YOU

I tried to give mine sardines once and they did not go for it haha. Zoey just walked away Dexter licked at it and I thought he was actually going to eat it but then he spit it out and started running around the room with his face pressed into the carpet I think the oils in the fish felt weird on his face. Hope you can get yours to fish! I tried that with Dexter too, he loves to snorkel, but he just kind of chased the fish around with his nose, wouldn't actually fish them out lol. He'd brush up against one and look startled

Tried sardines a few days ago, just to see if they would enjoy them. Molly loved the oil, but wouldn't eat the fish. Luna was just flat out disgusted with me for even offering them. I guess fish is out.

I was reading a little into other groups raw feeding dogs, and they did mention that it's pretty pointless feeding canned fish in what's presumably sunflower oil. It not only strips away the Omega-3 content, but adds to the potential free-radical damage (I have yet to research whether that's just hype or a legitimate risk).
And lol, can't you try raw fish, wild? Or do you live too far from the coast for that to work? EDIT - not so sure on Omega-6 claim.

Would you mind linking that study up please?

It's hardly a study, I wouldn't call this much of a source, but it's a starting point. dogsdinner2.webs.com/whichfishareoily.htm (I really need to research it before I could say definitively that this is not just ridiculous hype)

She doesn't appear to have any back up for her statement. She touches on it and gives a link but there is no further information other than the mention of salt content concern which has nothing to do with the sunflower oil statement. I agree that ferrets cannot process sunflower oil but the only risk that I can see has to do with how quickly sunflower oils go rancid if stored improperly or processed at to high a heat level. If the oils were rancid with the stored fish wouldn't that be a greater danger to humans than ferrets? ciao

Yeah, I was a little confused by that - but she does give us a lead (by mentioning 'free radical damage'). I'll take a little look into what goes on with the tinned-foods processing before I'll make any judgments, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's true.
