Why haven't they changed the model numbers yet? Everywhere still has 142s for sale.

I don't know but it's quite irritating I actually sent them an e-mail. Still waiting on a response.

Why haven't they changed the model numbers yet? Everywhere still has 142s for sale. Do you mean on Midwest's website, or other websites selling FNs? Midwest is a small company, and isn't quick to update their own info, I've noticed. As for other websites, it could depend on their merchandising representatives and whoever updates their sites and not only how swiftly info makes its way down a whole chain of people, but how swiftly some of those people take action...

I've never done it (though will in the future, when all the rats are gone) but they look perfectly compatible. The only difference with the CN is the top piece sits on top of all the sides (to lock it all up) and therefore makes the cage like 1/2" higher.
ETA: I meant to say this still should not make a gap though.

Actually, I don't see where there'd be a problem making a "double wide." They were never intended to be assembled that way with existing hardware, so however people have connected them in the past -- zip ties, usually -- should work exactly the same. Good point ;D As for the 143, I guess it would depend on the hardware included, as well as how the side bars are made. Right now, with the old ones, they are hollow all the way through, as anyone who has lost a linking piece in there can attest too ;D If the hardware is a separate "plug" joining up the two with a wider spot in the middle of the plug, it *might* work. At least from the way craze176 is describing it- unless I've misunderstood?

But what I can tell you is there is no separate hardware for the CN, all the pieces have the pegs and loops welded on. It's hard to explain or picture unless you see the CN in person (even with the pictures online)

I agree, going over the PDF directions didn't explain much to me, but once you see the thing it seems easy enough. As for a homemade solution to getting the two models to work together, I'm not sure... Midwest themselves did say it won't work, but of course they can't encourage "modding." Anyone who comes up with an easy solution could get pretty popular around here

Ah gotcha Meant to add... "communications" is not every company's greatest strength, I have come to realize... My dealings with vendors and manufacturers are mostly secondhand, but it can occasionally be a experience. Every once in awhile a customer will call to say that they didn't get what they expected, because a company has changed the color/formula/packaging/whatever and not notified anyone. Or I'll be helping out in the warehouse and pull a product from a bin and think "um, this isn't the label we show on the internet." Then it has to go back through copywriters to make sure nothing important has changed (which can include waiting for the product's company to reply to questions), then get back in line for photography (at the bottom of a long list of things to shoot that day already), then off to internet for updating (along with the hundred other things for updating)...

Oh I see! I don't think it would work that way unfortunately Not unless they changed the cage again.

Darn I had a feeling they wouldn't be due to the design. I guess my dreams of a 143 add on are getting slim. This doesn't stop me from having a double wide FN though

Very true! I wish they would hurry up and replace the model numbers. I wanna know if I'm getting a new one or an old one on ferret.com

I believe ferret.com drop ships straight from midwest, so it's very likely you'll get the new FN. I ordered the old version off of Ebay
