So, I know that it's recommended to not bath ferrets very much because it makes them smell and stripes their oil layers off, but I wans't sure if that meant NEVER scrub them down, or just not to do it very often? I've had Jinx since January now and I've never bathed her but wasn't sure if I should plan to do so at ...some point? I've got 2 bottles of shampoo from her previous mom and I've got no issue never using them but I just wasn't sure what everyone else did?

I only bathe they get dirty. Get into some poop, etc. I don't really use any shampoo though unless there is something really stuck in the fur. Water fun is just fine and can be done all the time It's the shampoo more than the water that strips the oils I haven't bathed any of mine in over 6 months.

I let my guys swim in the bathtub around once a month, and rinse them off like that. I'll give them a real bath if they get into something that really gets them dirty, but I haven't given them an actual bath since... August? It's been a while. Rice dig boxes help with keeping their oils in check, I think, because I notice when my guys play in theirs they're less stinky then if they haven't played in it for a while.

Only time I bathe mine with shampoo is if they are playing in the litter box yet again But yes, mine do frequently play in plain water. Best thing you can do to help their skin and coat is give them a rice dig box

Ok thanks guys Yup I have a dig box full of rice for Jinx to play in, I'd like to get one for her cage as well. Although, she does usually use it as a litterbox when out playing even though she's got several litterboxes available to her...?

I've rinsed mine off if they got dirty, but haven't given any of my ferrets a bath (using shampoo) for more than 10 years.

I have a few that I've never given a bath too... I think the last time they had baths was around mid-May last year and that was only because someone had played in poo and tracked it everywhere and it seems to have gotten on everyone.... monsters!

I say give her a good sniff, does she smell really bad? If she doesnt smell (mine never get any stinkier than the normal ferret smell) then theres no point, you can give her a bath and the next day she'll be back to her normal ferrety smell... Last one to get a bath in my house was Anks because she dumped soupie all over her head and back and that was about 6 months ago.
