I have 3 hobs, all in season now. I've found that when I let them mark wherever they want (they don't have access to the entire house) and don't wipe it entirely up, they don't re-mark the same spot and the odor disipates fairly quickly. They can tell it's still there so they don't mark again. Each also has his own cage and I let them keep the same bedding for a long time before I change it out (I think I only changed it once last season). Again, they get it the way they like it, the smell disipates (for me) and they don't mark again. By not washing them and their areas, they don't keep marking it up and it keeps them from getting really greasy as well. Just my experience over the years; hope it helps!
