ranitidine is a horrible tasting medicine. I would liken it to metronidazole. It makes them foam at the mouth. Why not some Carafate/sulcrate?

They should be able to get you some sulcrafate. However if you make a point of ALWAYS giving with food the pred likely won't cause a problem. I've never given CoQ10, so don't know the protocol for that, but with the reishi I just mix it in with the food.

The vet I talked to was kind of adamant on the Ranitidine, but I will see if I can avoid using it. I do give the pred with food, so I guess if I start to see a problem with her poops I can start the ranitidine. I picked up some CoQ10, but I couldn't find any reishi Trying to find stuff in my city is ridiculous. I will have to call a place tomorrow to see if they can order it for me, and how long it will take. So far, Chia seems to be doing alright. She was running around and playing like a mad fert today

I'm so sorry to hear your news --> so heartbreaking.
I attended the Phoenix symposium a couple of years ago. Dr. Natalie Antinoff gave a presentation on lymphoma, and, her findings were very interesting because her studies found that the "typical profile" (juvenile vs late onset) for lymphoma did not hold true in her studies.
Also, my Kachina (age 8) showed remarkable improvement in energy levels with Hai Lin Pian (also known as Laminaria 4. Her lymph nodes and spleen, which were enlarged, regressed to normal size. Other ferrets with lymphoma have improved with essiac, although I have never tried this.
You can find information on the Hai Lin Pian in the either the medical or the holistic health section of the forum. The Hai Lin Pian "decongests" the lymphatics, so it supports lymphatic health and systemic cleansing.
I will look up some info from Dr. Antinoff. She works with traditional treatments.....she may be willing to work with your vet if you decide to try a traditional medical therapy.
In the meatime, please read about the Hai Lin Pian.
Also the the reishi and CoQ10 are fine. I would expect the ranitidine would be OK as well. I will get back to you with additionnal information from Dr. Antinoff.
Hang in there - I know how rough this is. -jennifer

Since Chia has lymphoma, with swollen lymph nodes, would that not make her condition worse by spreading the cancer even more? Thanks Sherry, thats where I will have to get it from then. The store in my city won't even order it until the end of the month, and then it will take a while to come in (headwall)

Chia has her next appointment on Sunday but I am super worried about her. She has gained a lot more weight and I think its starting to affect her daily life. She can't bend as easily and I'm worried it might be affecting her breathing.
We haven't changed anything in her diet and she doesn't really get much for treats. Every now and then she gets a piece of freeze dried chicken for a treat. We have been giving her more ferretone lately after her medicine.
I'm not sure what I should about her weight gain, but I will bring it up at the vets on Sunday.

Right now the plan is to try and make it to the vets office. With the flooding in Calgary and the flooding here in Medicine Hat, we might have some trouble. All the bridges here might close before I am able to leave. I'm going to have to learn to walk on water!

Goodness, let us know how it goes. Be safe and by the way, your little ones already think you do walk on water!

Fingers crossed, and hopefully you don't get the kind of flooding the rest of us have had. Is your area under the evacuation order?

Made it to Calgary! My house is safe, thankfully. Sadly the trans-canada bridge connecting medicine hat to Calgary has closed behind us. Hopefully the vet will have some good news for us.

Well good news and bad news!
The good news: Chias lymph nodes haven't grown at all, and the xrays show no changes at all to the mediastinum. There is also no fluid build up in the abdomen, and her spleen looks great. She hasn't gotten any worse at all! If it is lymphoma, its not the juvenile form! (dance)
The bad news: Chia is gaining about a lb a month, continuously. We don't know why, or what to do about it! The vet is consulting other vets and sources to find out more information. We are considering ultrasound and bloodwork, and will make a plan once the vet finds out more.
Has anyone heard of any metabolic disorders in ferrets? Anything like hyperthyroidism?
