I can say all my ferrets are now on raw. not balanced yet. soup recipe in a grind. working on chicken chucks and wrong tips before moving on to new meats and fully balanced. 3 of my for have a vet appointment tomorrow. I am worried about one ferret who looks like is wearing his winter coat and has gained 2 pounds.. I know she is going to say something to me about the weight gain. how do I respond? I am also cross posing on Facebook since that seems to get more traffic.

He must have his seasons crossed... it happens.
Is what you say.

How was he this past winter? Did he have a slicker looking coat? And is his fur longer and thicker looking now? If so he does indeed have his seasons mixed up.

I'm not sure. he's a new to me rescue. we just got him in Feb. last year he was a kit so hard to tell. I'm hope I don't get a lecture from her about diet as I've never talked to her before we decided to switch.

It's hard to say how they will respond, I always say "wet" if I have to see the local vet for something as they are the only option and seem to be clearly against "crazy" ideas like that, I've gotten interesting reactions to my turning down the vaccines they pull out as soon as they put us in a room. It's just not worth the hassle. We prefer to use our out of town vet who is more knowledgeable and nicer, and that office seems to be fine with raw, they wanted to know if we made it or bought a brand and that was the end of the conversation. I told the emergency vet at another office when one of my ferrets was very ill several years ago and he asked to make sure we were feeding for a carnivore and didn't think ferrets were rodents or something, just checked that and then moved on. I have found the vets we have seen never seem concerned about overweight ferrets, we got a huge fat boy from a friend who never did really slim down and nobody ever seem to think it odd. I would just say he's adjusting to a new diet or that it's probably the season mixup.
