Here's an example of what Pippin does with his food. After he emptied his dish, he set out to play.

Does he go back to eat it later?

Kaylee nomming on a frog leg. I wish I could find US sourced ones, but until I can, they will stay an occasional treat rather than a weekly staple. They LOVE those things. (and I'm debating getting some to cook for my dad, he got awfully excited when he heard I'd found them locally LOL)

Does he go back to eat it later? Oops, I thought I answered this. Sorry Sherry. Yes, he does go back and eat it later, for the most part. This was his first exposure to mice and wetting them down with salmon oil was not enough to entice him to eat them. I have since resorted to making soupie of them with part of his week's allotment of chicken liver and he cleans his "plate."

I was never brave enough to toss adult mice in my blender, lol. I went to the extent of cutting open the bellies and filling them with their favourite oil.

I'm using a small food processor with pretty poor results. It macerates things but doesn't do a great job pureeing bone and skin. Plus, it makes a mess with liquid (UGH!!!) Thinking I'll have to toss it and head to a thrift store in search of a blender. No way I'm doing this in the skin family's blender, no matter how well I clean it afterward! lol

Why not just start with pinkies chopped up and mixed in with his regular meat, then cut in half, then whole, then alone and work up the sizes from there? That's actually how I've gotten all of mine eating mice.

That's actually how I've gotten all of mine eating mice. That works. In fact, he eats pinkies with no problems. He'll eat the mice if they are chopped, and he is now also eating pork. I've been tracking weekly weights and daily food intake. Thinking about signing up for a mentor, mainly to have someone "looking over my shoulder."

I've noticed in the videos that the ferrets will hiss and squabble over the food chunks, and get quite territorial with them. I am planning to transition mine to raw diet very soon but this worried me a little (not that i will stop my plan of feeding them meat) But one of my ferrets (male) had a problem in his youth of being aggressive over food or treats to humans. He was taught out of it, but is there a chance of it coming back when he starts getting meat?

Never had an issue really. Ferrets fighting over food is considered natural, they even hiss and snap at each other over meats before their eyes open. Ferrets have lousy table manners and they don't share. We don't expect them to either. I've offered quail quarters or mice even rats to my guys with more than enough to go around only to have a huge squabble over one piece. They don't care if there is more or that all the pieces are the same size, "that" piece has to be better. It's actually very healthy for them to do this. As long as they're not having to actually fight for their food (they'll starve if they don't get that piece), then all is good ciao

Here are the babies enjoying rats. They've been previously frozen, they did not kill them. They're not hugely hungry and are more interested in playing a game of keep away (video) According to photobucket there's over a minute but it will only allow me to play about 30 sec. I'm not sure why this is happening, but if you're only viewing about 30 secs then I will remove it ciao
