That restlessness is a ferret who is in possible pain. He knows he has to relieve the pressure and the pain but can't figure out how. I would think at this point your fuzz is in pain or at least severe anxiety. Do you have some RR? This isn't going to take away the pain or the seriousness of the situation that he's in but it will relieve some of his stress. ciao

thx sherry Question about giving him more... is it possible to make it worse ... as in just adding more behind the blockage? I've been giving watered down pumpkin and oil every hour, and inbetween a syringe of water Followed by a dab of lax or vaseline, he hates both.

Unfortunately, it's always possible I won't lie about that. That's why I said not to give any more food right now. That WILL build up behind the blockage and cause him more pain. The hope is that the pumpkin will finally help push the blockage through. Because if it doesn't, I'm sorry, but the prognosis is very poor they really can go only so long before the bowel starts to turn necrotic However, with a good bit of fiber(pumpkin), lax and oil to "lube" everything up, and a TON of luck, he just might pass it yet. He'll still need to go into the vet's to make sure everything is working right(no necroses, etc), but hopefully it will work. Lucrezia was fine when we left at around 9am, and at 3:30 was totally lethargic, refused food, lax, pumpkin, etc. With syringing everything, she finally passed it about 11:30 that night. She was most certainly not herself for a few days following, but finally came back. Although never with the true abandon she used to have.

Heather is also right. The RR will help him to relax a bit, and hopefully that will also help a bit. At least he won't be quite as stressed as he is now.

it's hard to trust the vet, when he 1)set him home and 2) said to keep feeding him.

Colborne is only about an hour east of you, by the 401 it might even be less. Michelle at Northumberland Vet Services (905) 355 1622. She's my vet. Her husband has done some wonderful things with a knife for ferrets. I've got a standing order to have any of my guys do donate any blood necessary for fuzzes if they need it ciao

You are closer to Toronto- why on earth would they want you to go to Guelph?

They would want to have her use the university. A lot of vets around here send sick fuzzes to Guelph rather than deal with something they know little or nothing about. ciao
