My vote in there also. Get her in asap. Once you are there, they'll fit you in!

that is a major problem. dehydration will kill a ferret fast. second, if their is a blockage, that portion of the intestine will become necrotic and it will also have to be removed (that is IF the ferret does not die before). i cannot stress to you the importance that you take him to the vet today. if he can't find anything on the x-ray he will need to do a barium x-ray. if your ferret can't pass this with vaseline, pumpkin etc. then whatever this is, it is lodged in there pretty good.

hi, sorry had to work. Neka has been to the vet, and xrayed. I did ask for the barium xray but cause i wasn't there I"m not sure which was done. The vet feels it is a blockage and gave vita lax. He's had a runny poop now thats it. Vet said to bring him back in the morning if no change. I"m not overly comfortable with the info given but like I said I couldn't go with and had no way of being contacted to get more info. The vita lax... Is it safe for ferrets? Is waiting till tomorrow not too long to wait?? Now the vet is closed so not many options and I"m just frustrated! Vet says to keep feeding him? Feed him what though? He's had pumpkin/ mixed with some soup Should I continue this and the Vita lax? I'm very frustrated. and worried! as well the vet said to give 3 times a day?? Vet seems way to conservative for me! or not worried enough. how often should I be pushing pumpkin? or switch to just the lax?? edited to add... he threw up what I just gave him, and it's foul smelling.

Has his appetite improved at all? What did the vet say about the x-ray?
I would continue pushing vaseline, pumpkin and fluids.

i really hate vets sometimes. how many days has your ferret been like this (not eating, etc?) do you have another vet that you can take your ferret to and will he give you the films from the barium x ray that you already paid for so you can take it to the other vet?
chances are that your ferret will most likely not be able to pass this blockage with food vaseline or pumpkin. this is beyond home treatments. given your description of his behavior and not eating, etc. if he threw up i think it is pretty serious. i'm surprised your vet has this 'wait and see' attitude. how many days has he been like this? sorry to be blunt but this cant continue for long. your ferret will dehydrate quickly and that is deadly to them. when an animal is like this, i feel that giving vaseline, pumpkin cat lax, etc. etc. will probably make it worse. i'd pack my ferret up and go see another vet and try to save his life. i dont know what else to say or to suggest to you. sounds like surgery is in your ferret's near future. i hope everything works out ok for him. poor little guy.

The after hours clinic says the only thing they can do is iv fluid support till 8 am when my vet opens. They dont have anyone there with experience, unless I drive 4 hrs away. hes still peeing, and i'm getting chicken broth into him, with syringe.
I've searched for the syringe feeding thread for a refresher, as he's a fighter and i'm afraid to hurt him, can't find it, anyone know where it is??

HA it's my own thread on the old board, Trix was easy to syringe, never fought. Neka has a lot of fight in him. He's going to need it tonight. thx Rose

I'd definitely get the IV support. Dehydration is a huge risk.
Any signs of pain yet? If so, have them give some pain meds.

He's not grinding his teeth or paying at mouth. He's still running around a bit, but it's a restless running around not exploring.
We are taking turns staying up with him tonight and will be sitting at the vets office at 8am.. and after he fixes my baby i'll give him an ear full sending us home with not support over night, not impressed.

Also, if you cannot possibly get him in tonight, keep up with watered down pumpkin, lax, vaseline, whatever you can. Every hour if possible. I'd not be giving too much food right now. He certainly has a blockage, and we'll be thinking of you
