I tried them on Ground beef tonight with there egg thinking since they LOVE there egg they might just eat it up...... Boy was I wrong... I ended up having to scruff to get some of it down them.... Once Waffle ate some she was ok... But NOT gus & Pixie.... GRRRRRRRRRR..... I will try again tomorrow.... in the mean time..... A quick questions as I know you are a busy lady...
I can find fish but frozen and I only buy wild caught.... but what type of fish and how much and how often? I have some Tuna steaks and Mahi Mahi on hand... and if I do feed fish can I try putting salmon oil on it to get them to like it?

Think smaller fresh water fish. The larger the fish the higher the toxins. Open ocean fish are higher in things like mercury. Fish cannot excrete these poisons, so as each small fish is eaten by a larger one, the toxins are absorbed. Meaning the highest on the food chain has the highest level of toxins.

And keep working with them on the new proteins. I know they are resistant, but that's because they've now imprinted on milder meats like chicken. Push them.

And keep working with them on the new proteins. I know they are resistant, but that's because they've now imprinted on milder meats like chicken. Push them. OMG.... I have a couple of OMG's..... First off.... Fed the fur butt's Pork again last night and two of them (Waffle & Pixie) Gobbled it up.... No PROBLEM ....Gus I had to FORCE him to eat it... GRRRRRRRRRRR.... And I never really knew what a Cleaver was until last night when I was chopping pork up.... OMG.... This thing is awesome.... It chopped through my partially frozen pork like butter and I got the pieces nice and small so they would eat them.... I never knew what a good knife was until I got one.... (dance)
What kind of fish do you consider small? Flounder? I am a vegan and don't eat any kind of meat and am having a little trouble with the fish thing. I went looking today but I was totally confused.
Tonight is heart night again.... Only waffle likes the hearts.... Hopefully they will catch on to that one quick.... I was gone all day today and left a meal of Chicken Necks like you said and no one touched it.... That is unusual.... They normally eat up there food no problems..... Any suggestions?

First- congratulations on the success with the pork for the two at least (dance) With Gus just keep finger feeding until he takes it from a spoon, then on his own. With the chicken necks they are protesting. That's all They'll get over themselves quickly enough You can cleaver them up into 1" segments if you like. Heart- puree and spoon feed until they take it willingly like that, then work up to slivers etc. Fish- check in the freezer section of a grocery store for any fish trout sized or smaller. Warning- just get a small package if you can as some absolutely refuse no matter what. Let me know how they do with the pureed spoon fed heart!

As you know Gus had a allergic reaction to the beef and we will be discontinuing all single hoofed meat from here on out.
I bought some Cornish Game Hens but don't know how to prepare it for them... Do I leave all the bones in or de-bone it like I do with the chicken thighs, legs & breasts. Also they don't seem to like the skin. Is that normal?
Thanks for all your help the other day.

Sorry- thought I'd replied here as well. It sounds like they are all really progressing! That is fantastic With the liver cut it back to one meal a week. They should get no more than 2oz each. Unless each that you are giving them is 1oz? For the Cornish Game Hens, prep them the same way as you would a whole chicken. Segment, and definitely leave the bones in. We've got to get these lazy wee sods moving on them, When you feed the wing, segment between the joints and smash the larger one a bit. Cut up the thighs and drumsticks. For the rest of the body just cut it into chunks they'll accept. How are they accepting the chicken thigh chunks now? Are they eating all or most of them? How are they now doing with the neck segments? Also, let's see about varying the thighs with other parts like drumsticks, wings, etc. They definitely need more bone heavy meals like wings and necks to firm up stools.

Yes.... Each meal that is hand fed in the evening is 1 ounce.... I can not get them to eat more than that at one sitting.....
Last night was Necks with the left over pork.... Woke up this morning to an empty plate and only about 8 little bones laying around.... YEAH .......
When I give them chicken it is boneless and chopped to about this size
I have never given them anything other than Breast & Thigh. They have been eating all the Chicken thighs and defiantly the breasts. So I should chop up wings & legs with the thighs and take the bones out of the thigh and legs? Just making sure I got this right. When you say smash, what do you smash them with?
I will get them moving right along....

Leave all bones in now. And start making the pieces larger, they need to be chewing on their meat Start reserving the breast for yourself, and give them cheaper fattier cuts! I use a cleaver on mine. I set the thigh, wing, drumstick, etc on the cutting board and smash the bejeepers out of it with a cleaver so the bone is broken open to expose the marrow in several places. As they improve and learn they will start doing this for themselves. Now, all I do is cut the thigh in two hunks across the large bone. Same for the drumstick for some reason though I still segment their wings They should accept the CGH with little trouble. That will be 3 proteins. If you can get turkey, lamb, or goat into it they'll be set once they are fully accepting everything

Sherry, I am very sorry I have not gotten on to let you know how they are doing with there new meats & organs.... My dog got sick on Sunday and I had to take her to the ER.... She has Pancreatitis and degenerative myelopathy and is a HIGH ANXIETY dog... I mean UP MY BUT anxiety.... It has gotten worse since she has gotten older..... 12 years old Shepard/ Rott .... Anyways..... Been having to go to the vet in the AM (6:30am) and in the PM to pick up around 6:30 pm....... I home school my granddaughter whom I recently gained custody... She was being abused... Mentally, Sexually & Physically..... Was anorexic when she first came..... She is 5..... she has Occupational therapy a& Speech therapy twice a week and counseling once a week and were I have to take her is an hours drive there and an hour back.... So, my plate has been a little full and I know I have forgotten to tell you what is going on, But I keep a log on them and have been making sure that they are on track with what they should be doing..... I just don't want to get kicked out because I forget to post....
On Sunday it was Liver day... Everyone got hand fed an ounce of liver at there evening meal.... It is safe to say that everyone LOVES liver..... so I might just start making it a meal I leave into the cage... The only problem is that Pixie will eat and eat and eat... and others won't get the ounce they need....
Tonight was ground Turkey and egg yolks.... and of course... they slurped it up.... they love that egg yolk..... In the cage now is chopped pork and tomorrow while I'm gone in the day it will be chicken necks.
I will be in another town and am going to look for lamb, goat, or maybe even rabbit.... I will see if I can find some other kind of protein to make it a 4th.... FYI... I did find a place I can buy frozen quail... a little pricey... but maybe could buy bulk..... and I think I found a place to get quail eggs..... If I can get them.... do I just give them the yolk to o the whole egg, shell and all?
Thanks Sherry

Hi Sherry, Tuesday - Turkey Hearts for there evening meal hand fed if need be with chicken necks and pork meat mixed in left in there cage Wednesday - Liver with chicken necks left in there cage Thursday - Pork with ground turkey left in there cage
I could not find goat and Lamb was 18.00 a pound.... I don't think so.... LOL... and it wasn't even from the US... it was from Australia.... Weird... You would think living in Farm country I could get some of this stuff from local farmers.... Boy was I wrong..... So I found some frozen quail.... I got 4... That means they have chicken, pork, turkey, CGH, and quail along with there livers & Turkey hearts. I saw pork livers today but didn't get them but I bought pork neck if that is ok to give them.. it has a bone in it..... I am going to chop all my stuff up and freeze it in containers so it is easier for me... Let me know what you think about the pork necks.... I wasn't sure what cut to get.. I was chopping up country ribs for them.... I hope I don't sound too ignorant... But being vegan I do not know a lot about meats and how to prepare them let alone cut them up... BUT I am learning for my babies...
Also... I recently was reading about how artificial light can be bad for them and to not have any on them. so I have rearranged there schedule..... Can you tell me a little more about the DES implant..... I have never head of it before and want to do what ever I can to help my babies.... Should I be doing or giving them anything else to stave off disease? Thanks for all your help

First- don't worry about being vegan You are feeding your little ones what they need, and I'm here to help you with that Ask away, I don't mind at all! First. The meats you are leaving in the cage. Are they eating most or all of what is left for them? If only some, can you specify? As for the lamb- only ones I can find in the grocery store are Australian as well Do you have a halal(muslim) butcher near you? That's where I get lamb and goat! Cheap, cheap, cheap 5 proteins, excellent (dance) Pork neck. They might or might not eat the bone. At the very least it's great exercise for them. I'm going to copy/paste someone else's pics from fb to give everyone here an idea of what they are actually capable of! She gives her 14 an adult pig's head. Within 48 hours it's completely picked clean and the jaws unhinged because they've eaten the connective tissue Country ribs are great for them, as are rib ends if you can get them Lighting. The ferret mills keep their intact ferrets in season, or bring them in artificially by manipulation of lighting in the ferrets surroundings. Adrenal is triggered by overstimulation of sex hormones. So the same thing that brings an intact ferret into season causes tumours on the adrenal glands of our mill ferrets(or any altered ferret for that matter) Owners on this forum have realized to their misfortune that their intact males(and one female) have been brought into season when they should be in winter mode simply due to an extra hour of lighting in the fall. They are actually THAT sensitive to it. So. Provide completely dark sleeping areas like dens with only one entrance with a longer tube if possible. Cage covers. Use amber lights in any area the ferrets are going to be in, as it's the blue spectrum that makes it worse. Have the lights on only when you need them. Check on how long the day is from sunup to sunset and if you are going to be up with lights on AFTER natural sunset make sure the ferrets have total darkness for the same amount of time during the normal day. And no. This isn't always possible. Which is why so many of us who have ferrets living indoors have accepted the fact we ARE going to have adrenal ferrets. The idea is to delay it as long as possible.
