I don't clean my ferret's ears...the more often you do it the worse it gets. It's rather like bathing. I don't do that either unless the wee bums roll somebody in something unmentionable I find that rinsing (just water) helps keep the hobs' stench down to a dull roar and the alters just don't need bathing. Ears...if they need cleaning a lot, then I take them in to see if they've got a mite infestation (this seems to happen after taking in a rescue *) The hobs again seem to need their ears cleaned more often but it's just what little brains they have at this time of year is oozing out (trying to get away from the smell I think ) ciao

I would be tempted to take a small cotton ball, with some olive oil on it and gently wipe out his ears. Just the outer portion. Chances are his friend will start cleaning his ears for him. This is something paired ferrets do for each other. ciao

Watch that the wee baby doesn't start sucking on your other ferret's ears. It just means he was taken from his momma wayyyy to soon. Offer him a chicken neck to suck on instead. It can get painful for the recipient ferret and his ears will get sore. ciao

Yeah, if you have more than one ferret they will clean each others ears. I found that when my girls were kibble fed I still had to clean them once and a while (see Heather's suggestion above) but once I switched to raw it didn't seem to be an issue anymore. Maybe kibble wax doesn't taste as good as raw wax or maybe they just produce more wax on kibble? Who knows?

I have two obsessive ear cleaners in my group. works well for me, no more ear cleanings, which they all hated anyway. I have one boy who insists on trying to clean my ears too!

Looks like I am picking up some more olive oil tonight! That is brilliant! Miss Lady tries to clean everyone's ears, but she isn't always successful. Maybe if I can get one of the bigger boys to clean ears, I might not have to harass poor Mo-Mo at least once a week. (His ears produce SO much wax. It is crazy! Also negative for mites)
