Today I lost a great friend, a loving and noble companion, today I lost warrior. I woke up and I approached his cage as usual, he saw me and went to the litter box, but he was not well, he could not move his hind legs, he only gathered strength and crawled weakly. As soon as I take him in my hands I saw her wince, a gesture I'll never forget, a gesture that, just by looking at me, I understood, don't leave me, he said. As soon as I could, I called the vet for emergency treatment. To end the call I could hear his breathing hampered, his rapid pulse made him shake uncontrolled and I could feel his skin burning with fever. I could not do more to rush to the doctor for evaluation. On the way to the office I explained to the vet that a few hours ago he was playing with me and eating next to my bed, as he used to do. however, I could not continue when I saw him fight for his life. I got there in a few minutes, the fastest time in my life. I still did not quite get in when the vet took him to examine. As soon as the vet saw my little one, he took a syringe with medication to calm his breathing. When the syringe was about to be emptied, I could see the light vanishing of his eyes. Quickly the vet tried to reanimate him, the vet took him to the operating room to save him. those were the longest minutes of my life. I saw the vet going out of the surgery room and I could only ask "how's he?" to which he answered with a simple "sorry" ... He's not the first buddy that I lose, but he is the only one I could escort in that final moments, calm his despair and relieve his pain. And I hope that, as I could accompany him in his life, he could accompany me in the afterlife, for another moments of joy and fun. And I know that, as a real Warrior, he will be in the Valhalla, taking care of us Rest in peace, Sir Warrior Pendragon

Oh I'm so sorry... I'm glad that you were able to be with him in his last moments, and that it happened quickly, no lingering in pain.

A travelling candle is lit to guide your wee Warrior onto his next great adventure. You gave to your little one the greatest gift, the gift of love and to be there when he chose to journey on. He now roams free, no barriers bar his way, he is once again strong. In the dark of night, when you are between sleep and waking, just as your mind starts to wander, look to the stars and you will see your wee Warrior. He will never be gone, forever by your side, forever in your heart. Gentle journey little one....until you once again walk the same path ciao

I am so sorry that you lost your ferret warrior. Keeping you and Whiskey in my thoughts and hoping you can find solace together.
Warrior was only a youngster, wasn't he? Do you have any idea what happened

Oh no, I am sorry for your loss. Did the vet say what happened? IT would be a good idea to do a necropsy so you can find the cause. Your other little one could be at risk if it was something contagious or environmental. Poor little baby. I'm glad you were there for him.

thank you all for your words. always hard to lose someone I am so sorry that you lost your ferret warrior. Keeping you and Whiskey in my thoughts and hoping you can find solace together. Warrior was only a youngster, wasn't he? Do you have any idea what happened He was only 3 months old, the vet said it was a neurological problem, not contagious, however I'll take Whiskey to do some tests to rule out anything. I also knew that the same thing happened to warrior's brother. It might be a genetic issue

I'm so sorry. That is a harsh loss indeed and being a genetic disorder is small consolation. To loose one so young....heartbreaking. ciao

That does indeed sound like a possible genetic issue if litter mates are having the same issue. He was a MF ferret correct? You should report this to Marshalls Farms...
I know it is no consolation, but they should reimburse you for your little one, and possibly the vet bills as well. (Go to the store and buy a bag of marshalls food first though and keep the receipt, their warranty is only goof if you are feeding marshalls food). Carpetsharks would be a good person to talk to, I believe she had some luck getting them to pay for part of her babies' surgery, thought I might be remembering incorrectly.
Regardless, they should be held responsible.
