Hi can i ask a question? I was wondering how long it is ok to leave raw out for? I was going to join for a mentor but with 3 kids 7 pets and a full time job im not sure i can follow the rules and i dont want to be rude about the rules so i have decided for now i will read all i can from your forum and try again to switch to raw. Before when i tried it always worried me about the length time it was left in their cage. Is there a guideline for this? Thanks

I think it has been said up to 24 hrs, also that a ferret wont eat food if its gone bad so you shouldn't have to worry about them trying to eat something that has gone bad because they naturally wont. I think you might wanna wait tell someone like Sherry actually says but I think I have read her saying 24 hrs.

I think you'll find that most raw feeders leave meat out for approximately 12 hours. The meat will usually turn to jerky before it goes bad. And the above poster is correct, a ferret will generally not in spoiled food. A good guide to follow is leave meat out 12 hours. I've definitely left food out longer than though than with no ill effects Ferrets love old meat for some reason.

From what I've read here it depends on the size of the meat... soups and grinds are 6-8 hours, medium chunks of muscle (1/4" or larger) are 12 hours and bone- in can go for up to 24 hours. Like everyone said, don't worry too much about them getting sick from it. They won't eat it if it's bad, but do keep an eye on how recently they've eaten, if it's been sitting there for a while then it needs to be replaced so they don't go too hungry.

Depends on the meat....ground meats should only be left about 6 to 8 hrs...ferrets won't eat it if it's off. Whole meats you can leave longer. Prey you can leave for 24 hrs ciao

I've been known to leave chunks for 24 hrs, grinds for up to 12. Generally I've found if they haven't eaten the grind within about 8 hrs if I mix a bit more warm water in they demolish it.
