Last week, after two days of BAD, BAD, BAD diarrhea...I took Yogi to the vet. He had an abundance of bacteria in his poo and is on antibiotics to clear things up. He's doing well now...still has a few days left on all his meds, but he's playing and looking pretty much back to normal. Poos show signs of his medicine, but are firm and good sized...just off color a little bit. All pretty much normal....and not stinky any more.
My question is this: I was in the middle of trying to introduce new tastes to the ferrets and when Yogi got sick I stopped....just in case his diarrhea was a reaction to one of the new things I tried. Their diet right now consists only of rad cat turkey with a tsp of pumpkin. Do you think it is safe to begin introducing new things back to my bunch now that Yogi is more stable? We do not know the reason for the bacteria, but it appears that there is no blockage since poos are back to normal and comparable to my other male ferret.
Oh, one more item...while at the vet, Yogi vomited. This was a concern to the vet...he feared a blockage at that point. They took x-rays which showed something in his tummy, but it was not clear if it was food, a blockage, or food hiding a blockage. Yogi plays, fights and eats, all normally. While at the vet he got into all the cupboards and even one drawer. The vet said that this did not look like a sick ferret. He's bright eyed and alert, even a bit mischievous.
