Ok so I realize I am probably asking a lot of stupid questions, and I am sorry but I have another one to ask. So I am hoping to get ferret number 2 in well about 2 or so weeks, I just have to wait on something else first. Anyways a new ferret will be a companion to my little Miss Zero (because you can never have just one ferret lol), and of course will be totally loved and spoiled but my question is WHEN can I start making the switch to a raw diet? Do I need to wait a day or two for said new ferret to get used to its new home? Do I need to give it a week? More? Less? I had Zero for more or less a month or so before making the switch. When is it ok to start making the switch for a new ferret? Thank you for any and all information.

I made my switch within 6 hours of bringing Javik home and that was all it took. I don't think it's a matter of when you start it, but rather the process. Start the first day by giving the new ferret a taste of soup with it's kibble and just keep increasing the amount.

First....there is no such thing as a stupid question and there is no such thing as too many questions...ok....ask...that's what we're here for. That's why this forum was created. Guili's dream was to create a site that everyone who wanted to find out about ferret care could come to and be welcome. Sherry has taken that idea and the site and ran with it, when Guili could no longer carry out her goal. So, if you've got a question, no matter how silly you feel asking it or how many questions you've already asked ask anyway. Chances are someone either wants to know or it's been asked before. This particular question is not that uncommon....I switch my guys to raw the instant they walk through the door. People are often not very forward thinking when dumping off a ferret...so food isn't something they bring. I figure I have to change a ferret to a different food anyway, it might as well be the food that I want them eating . New life, new name...new food ciao

Natey's only eaten raw since he came home- he was crunching bones his first breakfast! Charlie was a bit older when we got him and didn't really take to any of the raw offerings (soup, slivers, coated kibble, etc). We gave him a couple of days to adjust to us and the home before we began the real switch and scruff-n-stuffing. In the end, it was having him caged with Natey that convinced him to switch. Basically anything Nate will eat, Charlie will eat now. ;D

Mayvis switched the night I brought her home, and has been going strong ever since. When I got her home, I let her run around and explore and sniff everything for about three hours. By the time she was done she was tired and starving and it made it even easier to get her to taste and eat the raw.

Ok thanks, when I get said new ferret I will start on the raw right away. Thanks for the info. I know some animals get totally shell shocked when brought to a new place that they suggest waiting a day or so before trying anything new.
