Sinnead has not been doing well this past week. She only sleeps, eats when I hand feed her, and potties. Then goes right back to curl up and sleep. Tuesday night she started trembling all the time. We went to the vet's yesterday, only to find she has a very large mass in her abdomen. The vet gave me some pain meds for her, and we will be helping her to the bridge on Saturday.

Oh no! Sherry I'm so sorry to hear that. I'll be keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers. <3 Give Sinnead a kiss from me. I hope that with the meds she'll at least be comfortable and pain free.

The pain meds are helping her tremendously. I had no idea she was in any pain, since the trembling was the only sign We've also got some preventative antibiotics for her bonded cage mate, Boris. I know he's going to have a major IBD flare up with losing her. Right now, he constantly runs to find her and stands there looking at her for a few moments before running back to play again Once we've helped her cross the bridge, we'll be bringing her back home for a while, so they can all say goodbye in their own way.

oh no. that is awful. i'm so sorry. how old is sinnead? is her abdomen large? are you actually able to feel the mass? my friend had a ferret with an enlarged spleen and we could feel it was getting bigger and bigger. but it turned out it was not just the spleen.

I'm so sorry Sherry. This is horrible for poor Boris, is there any one else he's bonded to...friends with. When Mischief passed I watched a whole cage take Napoleon in. It really was rather touching because I had never seen Lady "B" be gentle before. Napoleon lived with Mischief (he didn't get along with anyone, hence buying Napoleon). When I found Mischief (he had passed quietly in a sleep box), Napoleon was trying to keep him warm (doing a darn successful job too). I took Mischief out so that everyone could say goodbye. Napoleon kept trying to wake Mischief. He'd nuzzle him, and lick his ears then he would lay down beside him and try and wrap himself around Mischief and cry. All the others came and said their goodbyes and wandered off. Ghenghis tried to get his friend, Napoleon to come and play but Napoleon was too wrapped up in loosing his friend. As I watched, Attila and Lady "B" actually came over and started nudging and nuzzling Napoleon. Lady 'B" grabbed Napoleon by the scruff and proceeded to drag him away. This wasn't in her usual nasty vocal manner, she was actually treating him as a kit (he was really at only 6 months). She nuzzled him and licked him and Attila put himself between Napoleon and Mischief. I watched as they worked him out of the ferret room in this manner. Ghenghis joined in but in a bouncy play type fashion and convinced Napoleon to play (ferrets are after all ADHD ). Throughout the afternoon, Napoleon would come back, again and again Lady B and Attila would work him away. That night I moved him in with Attila, Lady "B" and Ghenghis. I do hope that Boris can find a friend to help him through this. You have rescue remedy? You might want to dose him and yourself too. I am really sorry that it has to end this way, good luck, please know that we are thinking of you and are with you ciao

Miamiferret, she's between 7 and 8. And the mass was diagnosed through xrays, after palpation. Heather- he's in a cage with Vincent(his littermate), and Lucrezia. I'm hoping they'll help him through this. Good idea about the rescue remedy. I was going to use it for Boris, never thought about it for myself.
