Sherry asked, so I fig I would just post a new thread about how MegaWeasel is doing. He really hasn't changed much physically, it looks like hair is coming in on his tail, but idk if those a black heads. Hurricanekatt pointed out that I could clean his tail with the acne face wipes (with that salicylic acid in it) so I tried it. Not really sure what to think... the skin looked cleared up a little bc before the color was idk greasy. However, I pulled out a LOT of tail fur! Is that bc it is falling out or bc I was so obviously freaking him out? Idk what to think about him being adrenal or not... It seems like most people say they don't think he is or I should wait and see if the hair comes back. I wish I could get a close up pic of the tail, but he'd HAVE to be in a very heavy dead ferret sleep.
As far as my 'quest' for opinions on adrenal preventative goes... I am in the process of having my cousin (a vet) order the deslorelin implants. From what I gather it really looks promising and doesn't seem to have any neg side effects. Anyway, I emailed peptech before telling my cousin about them and the lady just seemed SUPER helpful. I just hope everything goes smoothly and it doesn't cost tooo much. I just wanna say thank you to MiamiFerret for some guidance and references/referrals.

Just to add, may be a bit before I get back on here... I am SOOOO busy with school right now and was hired as head swim coach for a year round team that is starting up. Really excited about the increase in income (which the ferrets will reap the benefits lol), it is just a lot of work! Hopefully I can get back on at least once a week... I hate missing out on all these great posts and threads.

You will have to post what you think of the Des implants when you finally get them. I'm seeing some positive results with mine. I had 4 ferrets implanted; Pooka, Captain Jack, Sprite and Lady "B". I lost Pooka, but I really was only buying time, I knew even when I did the implant that I was probably going to loose the gamble on this little one. Captain Jack and Lady "B" seemed to have reaped the biggest rewards and are both in all appearances becoming healthy and happy fuzzes. Sprite....she has bought herself some time, I hope. She has gained some activity but continues to sleep a lot. I consider all around a relatively positive result, it is after all, not a cure. Congratulations on the coaching job. ciao

Thanks Heather.
Are you using the des as treatment or preventative? I was going to go ahead and get a one year implant for them all as a 'prevention' method. I am just still not sure about MegaWeasel? He has always been a backwards and funky ferret...I just would like to know either way. I did get a hold of a vet in Atlanta that ONLY sees ferrets, but oh my goodness is it expensive... they said I could come in for a consultation, which I just have not had time to do... but just an office visit is $80... so I KNOW everything else will be even worse.

I'm using the des as a treatment. I'm still fence sitting about using it as a preventative. I hate to have used up one of my key defences when the time finally comes and I need it. I'm not entirely sold on the fact that it will prevent adrenal. Let's just say I've been sold this path before, and I want to see proof. They promised that giving melatonin was a preventative and it turned out to be masking the disease, then it was lupron, now it's des. My problem with des is that originally it was said that you could give it every 9 months as a treatment. Now, it appears you have to give it every 6 months and if you miss the window that the tumours become hugely aggressive so no, I'm only using it as a treatment. I've never been a big fan of taking things to prevent the possibility of something happening anyway ;D I will deal with it when and if it happens, just the fatalistic type of person I am ;D ;D. ciao
