So it's been about 2-3 weeks on raw soup. We finally got the liver, so we've got everything, we just don't have anything to make egg shell powder. We were trying to add them to the blender, but they weren't getting small enough. We borrowed a grinder from the neighbor, so we now have powder which I'm adding to their soup tonight. Anyhow, I'm starting to get worried. All last week we had pumpkin in their soup. Their poo has been super runny, then it seemed like it was kind of firming up, but now it's black. That can't be good? Is that them detoxing from the kibble or should I be worried about something? It's like black mush (sorry, TMA). I'm hoping now that we have the powder it will firm up like it's supposed to, but what about the color?

Did you give them liver alone, I know you mentioned you got it? When most carnivores eat too many organs it will cause poo like you're describing.

Yes an organ meal will do this, when you switch to a meat keep an eye out, to be sure it resolves.

What is your soupy mix breakdown....how much meats, organs, pumpkin and egg shell. Sounds to me like you've got a balancing issue. The black stool sounds like undigested blood, often caused by an organ meal or perhaps too much liver. ciao

As of last night (finally w/ everything) it's this: 1 big chicken breast, 1 liver, 2 or 3 hearts and water. I also read somewhere that a little Extra Virgin Olive Oil was good for them, so we added a very little of that. But we just barely got the liver and made real egg powder.
The last batch before I ran back to the store might have had too many hearts/gizzards because we only had a small chicken thigh and we needed more to make a decent portion of food. Maybe that's what done it.
Since we finally were able make the powder we added a whole tsp to to last nights batch hoping it would firm up their poos.
This morning Boss's poo looks brown, but still total mush. I think Rosco is still pooing a blackish color, but he didn't eat a whole of the food last night.
I need to get another can of pumpkin. Is there anything else that will help? Is it normal for them to have the runs like this while eating soup? Is it ok to add extra powder until we see it firm up?
I hate that they have the runs like this because it can't feel good.
I'm thinking about giving them some pepto from the vet just to give the poor guys a little relief.
Sorry to have so many questions.

How much does the chicken breast weigh? Your ratio should be 8oz chicken meat, one liver, a couple hearts, 1/2 tsp eggshell powder with enough water to make a soup.

As you've not had any calcium (egg shell, bonemeal or bone) to your mix, your little one's stools are going to reflect this. Generally, by being much looser. Raw stools are nothing like kibble stools either, much moister, less shape. Pumpkin will help but only if you don't add a whole lot. Generally speaking 1 tsp per ferret. 1 tbsp. will give your guys the runs...remember it's a dual purpose tool. ciao

Thanks so much! I'm getting more pumpkin on my way home today.
Just to clarify, the 1 tsp pumpkin per ferret, is that per batch of soup?
We also need to get a new blender or food processor that works good, but not too expensive. My blender isn't very good. Do any of you have any suggestions?
Thank you so much for all your help!

We use the ninja thing, bed bath and beyond has lifetime satisfaction guarantee, if it breaks they will replace it no questions asked... ;D
We pulverize the bones with it and the blades have stayed quite sharp

I second the Ninja, I have one too (dunno where it was bought, though -- Christmas present). I haven't tried to put bones through it though
