ok, so my baby Josie has decided her water dish is a playpen and swimming pool ;D. Everytime I put water in it she has it all over the floor within minutes. I tried hanging a water bottle this morning and she ended up getting the wire wrapped around her tooth so I had to take that down (I about had a heart attack as my husband was yelling at me saying she was caught like a fish from the living room). What do you guys do with your water dishes?

Haha, sounds like she'd get along fine with Mis. Do you have an attachable water dish, or a regular one that sits on the floor? If you have an attachable crock-like dish, then you can attach it so its an inch or two off the floor of the cage. That way it's a bit too high for her to get in a good position to dig or snorkel. That's what I do with Mis, and it usually work. Usually. x3

We do use that large dish out of cage. In the cage, we use loc crocs put higher up, so they have to stand to reach them. Makes it a bit harder for them to get their elbows into the action, but a determined ferret can still dig some of it out ;D

I took a plastic tray, a really thick towel, and a heavy glazed ceramic dish. I then cut a hole in the towel about the size of the dish. super glued the dish to the center of the plastic tray, then glued the towel down around it. waited a day or so until it stopped smelling bad and was dry, then filled the dish up half way and set it down in their cage. its a bigger dish so there is plenty of water in it, but if they splash it all over it goes onto the towel, on the tray and keeps it somewhat contained. but, they still like to play in it and do splash it all over, so there is a backup water bottle in their cage, held up by one of these: tinyurl.com/4gsqn7k

bahahaaha. that is too funny. she's saying "ummm, mommy i don't want my water dish HERE! i want it UNDER THE TABLE WHERE IT BELONGS!" i use heavy ceramic or stoneware bowls so they can't move them. Sonny still plays with the dog's water and with his own though. he insists that he's a little otter.

In cage I have loc-croks and they are set up a bit so that they have to stand to drink... Out of cage I use either a 9x13 or 8x11 pyrex style baking dish. They're pretty heavy so they don't get moved much and if they are out of cage the floor is concrete so if they dig and snorkle it's not a big deal.

You guys are too funny I have the twist N lock crock just like the link above and it is up pretty high because I thought that would deter her. Ya right, somehow she climbs up there and then when I look at her she is soaking wet and looking at my like, Hi mommy arent you so proud of me This one is really giving me a run for my money between the water and the trying to eat my toes when she is out. She is so freakin cute though Maybe I will try one of the stoneware dishes and hoping she doesnt decide she should have been a fish.

I had the same problem and Heather suggested to me to buy a cat box and put the water dish inside, so if they dig it doesnt go all over the carpet. Works great, they snorkle and splash all they want and I never have wet carpets.
