Recovery from surgery and making the switch.

I'm going to speak with the vet about this as well (she is raw friendly) but I wanted some input from those of you who may have experienced this. I want to switch my fuzz patrol over to a raw diet, but Ned is currently recovering from a major abdominal surgery (stone removal from his bladder and urethra). Should I wait until he is back at himself to switch? Another problem is that out of the 4-5 different kibbles I've ever had Ned on, the zupreem and the Evo were the only two that he ever ate religiously, and the Evo has green peas in it. I'm trying to stay away from that while the question of green peas causing stones is still up in the air. He is not eating great for me right now, he will eat hills a/d which he is on post-surgery, but today he was even snubbing that a bit. Should I go ahead and make the jump, or wait until he's a bit back to normal? What should I feed in the meantime?

For a short term measure, you could feed him some chicken or turkey baby food if he'll eat it (plain, no seasoning or additives). As far as the kibbles go, I'd take away the Zupreem immediately. At least with the Evo, peas are #6 on the list of ingredients versus being #3 with Zupreem, with #2 being sweet potatoes in the zupreem. The Evo I would think would be far less dangerous to him. I haven't heard of people feeding Evo having issues with stones, just the zupreem.

I would start him on baby food, using that to start him onto raw asap. I would get away from the "problem" kibbles immediately. I've always been one to jump into a switch with both feet. You will have to move at a pace that is comfortable for you. I've had surgery ferrets who've eaten raw the day they come home so I would be more concerned with getting him to eat and hopefully not something that was going to create more issues.

I agree- and if he'll eat the baby food, or whatever soup you normally make, let him have this and start a raw transition.
