Hi kids,
Just wanted to pop in and introduce myself. I found the forum this week and have been enjoying the wealth of info available.
I've had many ferrets in the past but none recently. I am planning to get a couple but want to do research first - especially on diet and potty training.
I was planning to get my new little ones from a breeder but that seems dang near impossible! I haven't given up hope yet, though.
Thanks for the hospitality and also for providing this awesome resource. Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Thanks Jackie - I'll check out that potty training link. I had some success in the past (okay, about 25% success on a good day ) but thought starting right away with youngsters might be the best plan of action for litter training. As for diet, I've been reading up on the raw food/whole prey diet and I'm eager to learn more. I worked at a cat shelter for awhile and started learning about raw food for animals - it was all news to me when I first came across it. Since then, I've been researching a ton and started providing some raw to my cats. I'm amazed at how it turned them into little predators -- they'd drag the turkey necks into a corner, growling. Such fun to watch. Anyways, I figured somebody was trying raw for ferrets, too and started researching it and found this locale. I have a very large boa constrictor that eats whole prey so I could actually just double up on my frozen orders. I'm definitely open to suggestions on this since I've never done it before. Still lots of learning to do! I will definitely post pics as soon as I claim my fuzzies. I'll see if I can find the pics of my previous kids. I've had quite an assortment - Pez, Taz and Kid F (sables from MF); Puck (albino from I don't know where); Evil Cheddar (RCF); and my darling Cleo (DEW from MF). They were all healthy and super social, friendly and fun. Except Cheddar (hence the "evil") who was a bite-and-latch-on, totally unsocialized basket case. I definitely would like another DEW or Panda or Silver - I really love those little white faces. But temperment is, of course, the most important thing! Thanks for the warm welcome.

Hi Kristin- welcome to the forum Please feel free to browse, post, ask questions, etc! If you are interested in a raw/whole prey diet, do a lot of reading in the nutritional section, including the mentoring threads. There are as many different ways to switch ferrets as there are ferrets ;D And yes- pictures are pretty much mandatory! Hope to see you around

Well when you do get your fuzzies, you can sign up for a mentor! They'll help you with your switch and get to wherever you want to be with a diet We'd love to see your previous babies!

Hi and welcome Kristin Everyone has beat me to telling you where to find everything so I will just say hello. Please enjoy yourself and participate and ask questions...it's the easiest way to learn and there are no such things as a silly question, especially about diet....of course there's nothing funny about a fuzz that can't seem to plank his/her butt in a litter box either ;D ;D ciao ;D

The thread on Litter box bootcamp is awesome and very helpful, the nutrition section is great too! If you enjoy the cats going bonkers over a turkey neck just wait till you hear the fuzz go at it!
